crazy idea!

ok so my friend has the honda integra (hatch) and hes done this really cool mod where he removed the back seat completely and has like a full sheet of plywood running from the back of the two bucket seats to the back of the car, and i really like this...

my idea is essentially to do the same thing with my lude, but turing the back sit into a full fold down seat kinda like u see in domestic cars such as the stratus, that way i can have a full open car but can still close it up if i want, what do u think? i wanna do this but without it being ****ty looking when folded back up...heres a pic of my buddies car to see what i mean

Re: crazy idea!

Wow that setup you posted looks pretty unique, give your idea a try & see what happens, there's alot of car audio gurus within the site that can give tons of advice on your setup too, good luck with tha project

Re: crazy idea!

yea his system in that car is crazy, i got the system setup already im jus thinking about opening the car up for more airspace, since only the one back set will fold down. thats why i wanna try to mod it up, but if possible i want it to fold right back up and look normal..ya kno?

Re: crazy idea!

There is a lot of structural material behind the back seats of a 4th gen. Removing that would compromise chassis stiffness.

Agreed, and not to mention the fact that his car is a HATCH.
If you were to try to do something like this in a 4th gen, GOOD
LUCK, considering only 1 side of the rear seat folds down.

How much thought have you actually put into a set up like his?
In a car like the 4th gen, there is a lot more to think of. What are
you going to put under the seat that actually looks good when the
seat back is up? And a set up like his is almost pointless in a 4th
since half of it would be hidden under the rear deck, and in the
trunk.

Just a couple things to think about. I have been doing car audio,
since the mid '80s, so I have seen just about anything possible
under the sun. Seen everything from 8-track to turntables in
a car. So just do some good planning and make sure it is a task
you are ready to conquer.

Good Luck !!!

one of the main reasons i wanted to try this was that i want more airspace accessible to the cab in an attempt to minimize the rattling of the trunk, i ideally would just have the entire back seat fabricated to fold down all together and fold right back up and look stock. i have kinda given up in recent times on this idea though can wrap my head around an idea to make it work

Re: crazy idea!

The air isn't the only thing that rattles your trunk. Essentially, if that is your point. Its a complete and utter waste of time. You are getting more rattle in your body panels due to transfer of energy into the body of the car OR the small amount of pressure (not velocity or sheer volume) that your subs create in the entire cabin of the car. You would have to have a SERIOUS woofer setup to have the pressure in the trunk with the half seat down make a difference as opposed to the whole pass thru. (Def. SERIOUS-search lobourbon's build) I understand the idea of moding things just because but there has to be some realistic means to it. As JayKnight said, loss of structural rigidity would be HUGE concidering it's a unibody structure (BTW Thanks for the info on the stereo of a current Accord Premium found that useful doing a handsfree kit the other day

Re: crazy idea!

i think you could cut out the panels and weld a roll cage bar in there. That would probably help solve this problem but it is just a guess.

Re: crazy idea!

i did something similiar to this im may car, just got out a piece of wood to fit the trunk perfectly then cut out a sub hole in both the wood and trunk carpet and now it sits dead center of the trunk- looks real good in my opinion- had to take out the spare tire tho

Re: crazy idea!

I was going to try to do something like this, taking out the back seats... but I couldnt think of a decent place to mound my 4ws box... so i put it all back. I had a box with two twelves facing in the cabin, blocked off all the seals from the rear...

Just cuz I couldnt do anything to make the back seats look decent I gave up and did a conventional setup
