Interior door handle replacement

I have an 01 prelude and the interior door handle chrome is peeling off real bad. I looked on ebay, and currently there aren't any for sale and I haven't checked the junk yard. My dad has an 06 Accord, and by the looks of it, they're nearly identical if not 100% the same. I dont know about where the rods connect to the handle or anything, just going by the look of it. There are plenty of those on ebay right now. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable? Thanks in advance for the help.

I've had this question too- will those chrome Accord handles fit our cars?

YES YES finally someone with the same problem! My 5th generation prelude interior door handles are peeling, too. I want to take them off, paint them, and put them back on... but i don't know how.

Ok I ordered the accord door handles; I plan on painting them red after I get the chrome off. How did you get them on?

Re: Interior door handle replacement

bought a pair at the junkyard from a 95 and 98 accord. $4 each. One is the sacrificial part so i can figure out how to remove the pin holding the handle to the accord housing.
any suggestions on removing the pin?

Re: Interior door handle replacement

figured out a way to remove the pin and re-use the pin. i squeezed and used a pulling motion to flatten the top flare on the pin. a pair of pliers and about 5 minutes to do. then a nail and hammer pushed the pin down and out. i put the pin back in upside down and used a flathead screwdriver to reflare the fairly soft metal.
caution when twisting/pulling to flatten the flare that you dont damage the stock housing you are putting the new handle in. that's why i bought a sacrificial unit. i took pictures of the spring orientation as well. i also kept the extra pins in case my flared end disengages.

Re: Interior door handle replacement

Bump
I see folks requesting these handles from part outs right often only to find out they sell faster than those $99 flat screens at wal mart on black friday.

2-1/2 years later my junkyard Accord handle that replaced a broken prelude handle is still in place.

Note; if you want custom colors to say, match the red stitching in your shift boot, the Civic handles of the same era come uncoated, but molded in a color that matches their interior so junkyard scores can be coated your favorite color with some duplicolor.

Also note, many have succesfully drilled out the old pin and used a screw for the replacement pin.
interior door handle $$
^^ as described in this one.
