L.E.D help please....

im been reshearching around and i havent yet understood how to use a LM317 adjustable voltage regulator.... and how to turn it from like 14v to 3 or 4v.... theres not a good how to... they just say hook it up yo... i was looking to change the lights in my after market gauges cause the bulb that are in there make the white gauges look kinda orangie... and i was going to try to use either bright white or red.... but the only good bright l.e.ds that i have found are 5v max...

so if anyone could post how to connect and adjust the LM317 adjustable voltage regulator that would be really helpful..

Re: L.E.D help please....

www.superbrightleds.com
www.autolumination.com

should be able to get super bright whites from either of those that will be plug and play. no need for a voltage reducer or anything.

EDIT: also, wrong section.

Re: L.E.D help please....

my bad about the section.... but any thing i use is not going to be plug-n-play.... im going to have to solder or just wire it up. the bulbs are like this....

i found a 5mm round led that fits right in to the hole. no problem.. but its the one that only goes to 4.5v's...

so anyone know a how to for the LM317 adjustable voltage regulator????? thats my main question... i can probally get all this stuff for free from a buddy at radioshack... i just need to know how to use it so i dont burn up my wiring...

EDIT: i should of made the headline Help with "LM317 adjustable voltage regulator"

Re: L.E.D help please....

Why do you want to use a voltage regulator? Do you plan on independantly dimming?

what application are you using these L.E.D.'s in? (edit: never mind.. I see they are in the dash)
So you will need like 4 of them minimum? Wire in series = 12 Volts / 4 = 3V to each L.E.D.

ALl of your L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diode) wiring/installation answers may be found HERE
(you dont need a voltage regulator)

Re: L.E.D help please....

happy to be of assistance.

LED's can be fun to wire up.... I'll try and find a thread where this guy wired over 300 in series parallel for his tail light functions.... CRAZY!
