Re: HID Lighting

Make sure you do some research on HID headlights before you buy. I personally bought a pair of 8,000K bulbs for my accord and I thought they were gonna be nice but they were too blue. Couldn't see anything at night. Most important thing is to remember the higher you go on the scale 4,300K-10,000K, the less use-able light you will have. Right now I'm running 6,000K bulbs and I'm perfectly happy with them. If you want a hint of blue in your color then go with 6,000K. If you want the brightest/whitest ones then get 5,000K.

I found the best brand to get are Kensun. You can find these on ebay haha.

Re: HID Lighting

4500-5000 will give the best output, and is white. if you want a slight bluish tint but about the same light output, go with 6000. as stated above, too warm of colors (8k, 10k etc.) have less light output. a 3000 is a 4000 with a yellow film over it that makes it good for cutting through fog and poor visibility situations, which is why many people use yellow for foglights

^^^ +1 This is where I got mine from as well, 6000k morimotos and they look excellent and haven't had a single problem with them yet.

Re: HID Lighting

I say 5000k. If it is good enough for BMW and Audi it is good enough for Honda. And they come from the factory with them. If you get 5000k you will also get less attention from the police because they look factory.

Which is better suited for a retro fit, 55W or 35W?

Re: HID Lighting

35w and 55w are about the same price, but the 55w ones are brighter. I assume that the brighter light is associated with more heat, so they are probably better to be used with real retrofits which have glass lenses instead of plastic found in some halogen projectors.

I cannot see spending so much money on retrofits and doing all the work and not getting the very best light output from all my hard work, so for retrofits I would recommend 55w morimoto hids and the 5five ballast that is on the retrofit source website

Edit: and to the op, if you are going to go retrofit, look into the fx-r bixenons. They have low and high beams in one bulb

Re: HID Lighting

to answer your question, yes that's a good reputable site, and yes 6000k are what most people on here run, I have 6000k, they are pure white to me with a slight blue tinge, heres a picture of when I first installed them. My projectors werent adjusted at all and the camera isnt the greatest but it will give you an idea...

Re: HID Lighting

I had 6K low beams w/ 3K fogs in this pic and it was hella bright at night. Digital HIDs too lil bit diff. than the cheap HIDs on eBay, especially Xentec or whatever..avoid them at all costs! lol

Re: HID Lighting

i'd go with 6000K. It's a crystal white output and you get everything from looks to clarity.

What i don't get is....if the stock headlights (5th gen) are able to handle the heat emitted by the 55W. I know its bright....and bright it good at night time. But is there a possible chance of melting the headlights or creating any discolouration?

Re: HID Lighting

Switch to 3000 or 4300. The housing is only going to distibute 5000k tops. Everything else is bleedthrough, blinding the bejebus outta everyone. You could adjust the aim to be more on the floor, but what's the point then?

Also, HID kits are offroad use only. If it's not oem/factory and cost 700.00, you are asking for a ticket. Cops don't bust chops because people produce reciepts for the changeback and then put the HID's back on.

On the other hand, they have a field day on your tints, muffler, and check your plates for past violations, unpaid fines.

Re: HID Lighting

I have 8k w/ 55watt ballasts. Bought them from DDM tuning.com. I have been running the same set for 3 years with no problems. The website says that at 55watts the color tends to wash out about 2000k of color. So my 8000 look like 6000. They were cheap. I have them adjusted and I NEVER get someone brightlighting me, trying to get me to dim mine. The difference between those and stock were incredible. I highly recommend this swap to everyone. Install was a breeze.

Re: HID Lighting

I looked at the ddm site just now. They start at $29.95 + $10 for 55w. Depending on bulb used they may charge + $10 or $20. So their max price look like $59.95. A pair of Silvania Ultras that you buy at the auto parts store dont even come close to these and they cost $54 for a pair.
