HID bulb or ballast problem?

after i got my lude up and running after 6 months my passenger side low beam light was warming up to the wrong color. the bulbs are 6000k, and the light is the right color immediately after i turn on my lights, but then changes to a more purpleish color. i checked the passenger bulb and in the middle ball there appears to be some black stuff (took the best picture i could). my question is, do i need to replace the ballast, bulb, or should i just get a whole new kit? yes they are ebay headlights, and bulbs, i guess you get what you pay for? in the last picture you can see the normal drivers side light vs. the passenger side. both lights were perfectly fine before i took my engine out. thanks in advance for the help

Re: HID bulb or ballast problem?

That looks like the bulb is going bad, just get a new pair or single bulb. :)

Re: HID bulb or ballast problem?

All hid bulbs work with any ballast right? Or do i need a specific bulb for my ballast? Like a certain wattage or something?
Electricity (sp?) isn't my best subject lol

Re: HID bulb or ballast problem?

What are the specifications on your ballasts? 35W or 55W? If they only can handle 35W, buy 35W bulbs, and vice-versa. :P

Re: HID bulb or ballast problem?

eBay "hid bulb pair" you can usually get bulbs only for about 14-20 dollars. Buy a couple of pairs in 4300(oem) or 6000(light blue). Higher temp bulbs cost a little more.

Re: HID bulb or ballast problem?

can you tell if you have a 35w or 55w ballast just by measuring the volts flowing through it? or how?

You can use a Multimeter, but I think you'll need one to measure W, which is wattage I believe? And most Multimeters don't have a measurement for that. I have two and they don't have it. :P
