Are Halos THAT bad!?

Everyone says go retro fit depos...I understand why but 700$ isn't that feasible for me especially for head lights. Plus I like the look of the Halos. So my question is if I get the Halos with the 6000k HID conversion are they bad? Will they be brighter than stock but not as good as depos?

What makes them so bad? Or is it just all personal preference.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

They are not made for hids so the light output won't be as good as retros. Plus the halo are hit and miss. Some work fine but alot of halo rings burn out. So you end up driving around with one headlight that works fine and one only half lit up.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

I bought a set of CCFL Halo Projectors from Ebay a couple years ago and so far no problems with the halos or projector. I have 6000k HIDs fitted into them and the light output is alright. There are hot spots and dark spots and the light isn't completely even but it does the job and look aggressive. If you like em, then get em, they're about $180.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

this is from a distance to show the output between the 2. first picture is the halo headlights second is true retros. you be the judge if retros are worth the money compared to halos. i have had both and i would not trade my halos for anything. i like the look of the halos just had a lot of bad luck with them.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

Prelude1897 does retros and can add halos when he does the retros. His work is great and highly recommended by multiple members on this and other sights.

yea, they're just halo rings you can buy pretty much anywhere now days. I just attach them to the shrouds and you just simply plug them to your parking light harness

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

Also remember that the OEM (and the depos) lights are a decent quality product. Park the car out in the sun for 10 years and they'll still look ok, maybe a little hazed. Could you do the same thing with the ebay lights? Having seen some of them locally, I'd be seriously surprised if they're even operating after 10 years.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

also depends on the type. I've read that ccfl seems to have more trouble than LED but the LED isn't as bright or easy to see... There's a tonne of info on the topic and people really like to mod/make their own.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

My CCFLs HALOS are burning out on right lamp.. I replaced the resistors but are still very dim now compare to my left lamp.

Does anyone know what size to get (for both lo and hi beams) or where to buy replacements?

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

^My halos on my passenger light were dead when I got the car. Really It's not worth spending money on replacing them opening up the lights etc just buy some OEM's or DEPO's. The output sucks on the halos.

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

When i got the car my left side was dead too and they were getting moisture in the lamp so I baked them, opened them, and sealed them.. they now look great but the left side is now DIM after I replaced resistor in it. I do want to get some HIDs from DDM tuning for better light output but I want to first get replacement CCFLs but not sure on the size for CCFL?

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

I found these SMD LED HALOs but I am wondering on what size HALOS to get? I may have to bake headlights to access the CCFL HALOs and messure them.

LEDs will last longer than CCFL HALOs..They will also be brighter.

Here is the link to ebay;

Re: Are Halos THAT bad!?

My car came with halos, and I hate them. One ccfl burned out, I've rewired them because the wires corroded, even with expensive bulbs they aren't bright (halogen) if you do your research is not hard to do your own retrofit. Mine is going to cost me about 350 considering 150 for a nice set of bulbs and ballasts, with Bixenon fx-r III projectors (used) and used stock headlights from bykfixer that I'll be restoring. Budget upgrades ftw
