Wet sand electron blue pearl?

Has anyone tried to wet sand and buff electron blue pearl? I've heard you're not supposed to sand pearl paints because it'll mess up the effect, but I have some orange peel in my paint from a repair that I'd like to clean up. Figured I would ask and see if anyone has tried it, had success or failed, before I experiment. I've done this process on regular colors before, but never with pearl.

Thanks!
Travis

I'll throw this out there if no one knows how sanding the paint will end up...

Does anyone know if the pearl is in the paint, or if it's in the clear coat?

Hard to say....if its a tricolor paint job then you can probably do a light wet sand but if it's mixed with the clear coat, you might not want to sand it. It all depends on who painted your car.

Re: Wet sand electron blue pearl?

I'm assuming the body shop used the same method the factory uses to paint it. I was just hoping someone has either tried it or works for a body shop that could answer it. It's a difficult call for sure, because I know there are a couple ways to do a pearl, it can be in the paint and then regular clear layed over it, or the pearl can be in the clear, and that's what you don't want to wet-sand. I suppose I'm going to have to take a risk and try a small spot in an inconspicuous area.

I appreciate the response

Re: Wet sand electron blue pearl?

The pearl is in the paint itself. Ive never painted a pearl paint that has used a odd clearcoat other than what I normally use. You should be more than safe to wetsand and buff it.

Re: Wet sand electron blue pearl?

No problem Vertigo!

Thanks Matt!!! I had a feeling it was in the paint but wanted to be certain before I put the paper to it. Last thing I want to do is make a costly mistake.

Thanks again guys!

Re: Wet sand electron blue pearl?

EBP is just a 2 stage paint job(base coat, clear coat), so the pearl is mixed in with the color itself. It'll be perfectly fine to wet sand and buff your color. Since I do body work, I've done it several times with this color and many other colors
