Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

just like the title says. anyone know of a company that makes every panel in carbon fiber? I found a dash and stuff one time, but cant find doors or a roof. All i can find is the cf sunroof plug. I wanna get the doors, a hardtop roof, and the trunk in carbon fiber. anyone know where to get these parts? I think the lude would be lighter than hell in all carbon fiber.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

doors and trunk you can get at extreme dimensions.

as for a whole hard top, probably need to ask a local cf/body shop

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

Our cars are heavy as hell, so why would carbon fiber doors be "retarded". Sounds like a great upgrade to me.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

if you have a deep enough wallet you can get every panel custom made. that would probably be the best looking as well since the company who does it will probably be able to make the weaves flow in a similar direction.

As a daily driver, you're going to have expensive doors (probably $4k for a set) that are gonna get smashed by other car doors all day. They also won't hold up worth a d@mn in a collision.

As a race car, a Prelude is heavy enough to warrant using a different, lighter car as a base.

And the weight difference would really be negligible. Go on a diet and save the $4k.

Hahaha I have to admit, well put. Very good opinion but I doubt the price would be 4k. I've looked into doors for my old DSM and they ranged from 1500-2k Ish.

Were they production units, or one-off pieces? I know doors for my S14 ran about $700... then again, it's a 240sx.

all that would be a waste. if you like the look, do the hood and trunk; those are easy as pie to find. the rest would be a total and complete waste of money, you could build a better engine that would make up for all the weight loss. remember, for every 100lbs shed, it only makes you .1 second quicker

Well though that is a good rule of thumb, Its holds less true the less hp and more weight you have. Here is my point. Take 100 lbs off a gokart. Then take 100 lbs off a caddy. Do you think they will both have the same .1 increase? Its really more about power to weight. And carbon doors. Real carbon doors, will make a difference. But god help you in a wreck. They really are more for show/track use(with a roll cage).

thats not really a good comparison at all. yes, power to weight is very important. but currently, his power is a static variable, hes only changing the weight. if he wants to lose the same amount of weight that all that carbon is going to do, he can ditch the spare tire, tool kit, and some other non essential interior parts

I would die if i went on a diet. i'm 6 ft at 150lbs.

This has not been a daily driver for a year now.

Car is gutted. all i have left to ditch that can be removed with a wrench is abs. if i keep the doors i'll be removing the skeloten and door bars. sunroof is plugged with the factory glass. plan to put a light cage in. also gonna replace the front seats with some lighter units. I wanna get it down at least to the wieght of a stock 92-95 civic coupe. thats the plan here, it also needs to stay looking good and as normal as possible from the outside.

Also, ive saw a few hundered pounds and 20 hp make a half second difference in an 1/8. so, the less wieght the better. If i cant find the stuff i'll find a way to drop the wieght. maybe make my own fiberglass hardtop and doors. idk.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

hate to break it to you man, but youre not gonna shed like 500lbs+ from your car, theres no way in hell. thats A LOT of weight. if you want to shed some more lbs. get some really light weight wheels. less rotating mass is essential. anything that turns fast, see if you can shed weight off that

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

i got my 94 civic down to 2130 pounds easily. thats 350 pounds, surely i can remove 500 pounds from a larger car where everything is bigger. lighter parts all over will be the key to a race wieght below 2500lbs. i'll finish it up soon and let ya'll know how it wieghs in.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

Here's the biggest problem with what you wanna do. cf roof....how are you going to even manage that? Your roof is integral structure for a unibody body car. You cant "remove" it and drop in a carbon piece. Second is the doors. Do you know what your bare doors weigh? Hardly anything. Most of the weight is the glass, window regulator etc. The sheet metal skin weighs very little in order for a carbon door to hold up to even moderate use and have any kind of rigidity it will have to be very reinforced. Making it heavier....making it senseless.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

you have a carbon hood? you ever tried to flex it? It is plenty rigid. also a light cage will help hold the rigidity. plus, not a dd, not like the doors will be opening and closing constantly.

depends on what you call barely wieghing anything. these doors are heavy.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

Complete doors way about 60-65 lbs. And real carbon fiber is only rigid in the direction its intended to be. But most of the stuff out there is fiberglass with a layer of carbon fiber over the top. I wanted a real carbon fiber hood. I wanted to paint the top to match but i wanted to leave the underside raw and use gold heat foil to reflect some heat off of the hood. I got nowhere, as everything i found is not real carbon fiber.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

yea. I'll probably just wind up skinning the doors and making a hard top out of the top that is there. but i'm talking to a company to see what they can do for me. i'd like to have windowless cf doors that are completely smooth on the inside.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

Man I love having a cf hood and trunk. I was also planning on doors. The damn lude doors are heavy as hell!!! Money is tight so whatever.

As for the roof, it really doesn't weigh much BUT a whole cf piece is nice. I've seen my buddy do his tegs roof and man it's damn nice. Cosmetics for me but for his it look like it helped.

Ludes weigh alot. Delete as much as you can if you plan on going for weight reduction because cf stuff can only go so far...

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

Just by a civic and swap your engine in it. And them have the lude as a dd. Imo the prelude wasn't designed to be a race car. Its a low power sports car that is great for long country drives. Just my thought. I don't even beat on my ludes. I hit vtec every morning to wake me up...and I'm happy lol. Rant

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

Id rather loose as much wieght as possible. Ive had a civic, and a 5th gen lude handle tons better on curves. Plus they look tons better. And its a lot easier to pull chicks in a prelude.

Re: Carbon Fiber Roof Doors Trunk and interior

You're going to try to pull chicks in a car with a full cage and no side windows?
