Wheel+tire Combo Question.

Hey guys, I'm going to be getting some new wheels and tires soon and need some advice on a particular aspect. Im going to be getting either Motegi MR125's or Konig Backbone's...and there may still be others that could get thrown in the mix later. I will be reading through the tire guide plenty before then. So here's the dilemma: If I put the same size tires on with the same size wheels, I think it will look bad(contrary opinions and /or good examples?). I'm at stock height, so Im wondering if 17's with a slightly lower profile tire might fill up the wheel wells a little more, or if at stock height, that too would look stupid. I'm trying to stay with the black on white theme here, as some of y'all know, so again, the question is not what kind of tires or what kind of wheels, but rather what combination of the two is going to look best on a lude at stock height? All opinions and examples are welcome and appreciated(esp examples)

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

by the type of wheel choices you picked out, im guessing you're going for more of the agressive look? would you look into tire stretching or no? btw works TE30 and TE37's are good choice. For me im going with the mesh look so works vs-xx or ssr's. good luck on what you get!

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

Yea Im looking for a rather aggressive look. I say rather because as Im sure many people on this forum agree, it would be much more aggressive lowered, but right now that's not the case. If I do do that in the future, it will be no more than a 1 and a half inch drop. What is this tire stretching you speak of?

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

Because your car has already been dropped 1.2" relative to the 4th gen lude, lowering the ground clearance thats presently at 4 1/2" on your street driven car is not the thing to do if your not into street impacting related ragging on your car. Also if you install tires who's size is different then the stock configuration then your on your own as far the need to tinker with the alignment and air tire air pressures that will make your tires ware properly on your car . To illustrate what can happen a tire/wheel configuration runs a muck ,click on the link below. It just took a few seconds to find this example because theirs crap happen all the time.If your just into appearances only and plan to just stick a cheap set of tires on your rims I guess its no big thing. But if your planning to spend some money and buy some good performing tires, the link below will tend to make you want to freak!

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

get the motegi's. i think theyll look great. since its a 7.5wide wheel id recomend a 215/45. im rockin that size on a stock height car and i think it looks great. something to be aware of the +42 offset & 7.5 width of the motegis youll need a fender roll to avoid clearance issuses.

also HUGE note here, disregard 99% of what shdriver says.

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

haha yea, I already knew about that. What exactly is a fender roll and why exaactly should I do it(other than to avoid clearance issues like you said). And yea...The Motegi's are new for '11, and they're pretty lightweight-constructed while maintaining good quality. Im pretty latched on to those as far as the wheel section goes.

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

Yea I read about the Motegi Prelude. Again, something they should have made more of AND available in the states. I had a set of Motegi's on my civic(which was my car that was totalled in a hit and run before I had my Lude). And as far as it making my car more JDM, It kind of does, but from someone's sig, it doesn't quite make me sleep on the right side of the bed if you catch my drift

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

fender rolling does nothing functionaly other than add clearance. i highly recomend it with offsett, your tires WILL rub the fender lip if you dont. rubbing can do nothint or than make noise you dont want to hear or it can shred a tire depending on how bad

Re: Wheel+tire Combo Question.

i think im gonna have to say hweeel all the time now.
But you neeed to have your fenders rolled. I used to work at a little body shop and I would have these guys come in all the time that put 17's on a civic and would try to lower it. Well then a week later they would come in because the new hweeels they put on would push the fenders out and give the fenders a nice little crease from the center of the wheel well up. So ROLL IT! I mean who wants to hurt a Lude like that?
