Keyed Lude :(

well, someone decided to take it upon themselves to key my car the other night. its a real shame too, for being 14 years old the paint was nearly immaculate. but, i guess people get jealous over nice stuff. i definitely dont have the money to repaint and to be honest why should i. someone will just key it again.

any ideas on what i should do?

Re: Keyed Lude :(

i hate assholes. i'm sorry man :(

well you can do you best to try and use touch up paint on the damage, then give her a nice wax and what not. otherwise your pretty much stuck with the what you got.
there's probably some other stuff you could do so wait till some other people respond for your best options

can we get pics of it?

Re: Keyed Lude :(

exactly what parts of the car got keyed and how bad/deep?

if its like a door or something and not very bad you MIGHT be able to wetsand the whole panel/door and get a small touch up kit like dupli color sells and paint the damaged area and buff it out? just a suggestion

Re: Keyed Lude :(

I worked at a dearlership as a mechanic for a while when I was younger. We had a service that would come around and do touch ups. They basically had a van full of paint and used a spectrometer to match car color then airbrushed the area that needed repair. They used it on a lot of top end trade ins that had keyed areas and bad nicks or chips. You could never tell after they got done. Best I remember it was pretty cheap too. Check around your area you might be able to find a service like that and can get it fixed cheaper than a new paint job.

i was at a party last friday and somebody decided to kick a dent in my front left fender, key my trunk, and toss cigarette butts on my hood. i was pretty pissed at the time but its better than broken glass or a slashed tire. sry to hear about yer ride but at least it still runs and they'll get whats coming to them

Re: Keyed Lude :(

yeah people always get some bad juju buildin up when they mess with cars. Maybe they'll wander into traffic or something.

Best advice is touch up paint. The issue with that is that even in great condition, the sun is gonna have some effect on the paint, so it may be a little noticeable still. best of luck to you.

Re: Keyed Lude :(

My custom gunmetal paint job was keyed again also. Very deep. I knew know did it and took care of him.

Idk how to keep random assholes away from doing stuff to your car, maybe keep a pit bull tied to the spoke of your rims? lol Sorry man ive been where your at now and it makes you want to kill some one.

just make sure if you do catch some one doing that again to kick their teeth in.

Re: Keyed Lude :(

You can try to sand it with a 1000 grit sandpaper. Then with a 1500 grit. Then hit it with rubbing compound, to take out the sandpaper marks.. Then u can finish it off with wax.. Or if the scratches aren't that deep then u can hit it with just the compound... Be careful with sanding though, u can burn edges, or go to deep into the past the clear.

That sux man, I feel ur pain though. I had $1500 paint job on my previous baby, a 96 impala and my ex keyd the quarterpanel all the way to the metal :(

Re: Keyed Lude :(

sorry to hear about that.

If i was in your position, (not able to afford repaint) I would just get a paint pen at the dealership and fill in the key marks. It would hide it from 20ft away but at least it fills in the paint and will prevent any oxidation to the bare metal.
