General CF?

Never worked with carbon fiber at all. Tried doing a search for something on this, but pulled up a TON of parts sales and such. Just a general question about install. Is cf hard to to install? Are the hood latches for example hard to transfer over and onto the cf hood or whatever? CF looks amazing and someday I would like to delve into that world, but I have this fear that if I do a body shop might be installing my stuff for me. Don't want to throw out that extra $$ you know. Or, mess up a hood while I am trying to install it. Any past experiences would be helpful. I hope no one thinks I am wasting their time, sorry if you do.

Re: General CF?

carbon fiber has always been the new rave on cars.. it looks cool, and is not that expensive.... carbon fiber can be easily manipulated with heat and force.... you can wrap items with it, and make molds with it... as far as the cf hood with new latches ( Yes, if you take your time and measure... ) i experimented with my interior door handles and cup holder, and it turned out quite nice.. i would start small, and move to the hood idea... GO FOR IT >.

Re: General CF?

I am a dork. Didn't word it correctly. I didn't even think of it from your perspective F22. I didn't even know the average person could work with cf on their own. Didn't know it was like fiberglass in the aspect that you could create your own stuff. I figured only businesses created parts at this point with it.
I guess I was wondering about if you bought a hood, door, etc. if it was hard to put the hardware in it. Any special tools recommended? Is it super hard to cut? Sorry for not being precise!

Re: General CF?

a CF hood will bolt directly in place. if it takes you longer than 10 minutes to take the old hood off, and put the new one on, something is wrong with you. it already comes with the hood latch and shiit

Re: General CF?

it's definately straight forward. but having a second set of hands when your doing it will obviously help you keep any unexpected damage from happening unless the second set of hands is a clutz.

Re: General CF?

Okay, thanks guys. That was what I was wondering. I honestly figured you had to take your old hardware and bolt up to the new cf item. I was wondering if you had to get out an air tool/dremmel and do some cutting to make the latch fit or if the old hardware would bolt in easily. But, if a new hood or trunk comes with latches and bolts right in that is great.
Thanks for the PM too F22! I appreciate your help everyone, all of you. Now I just need to save up some cash! :) Would love a new cf hood! Guy had a 5th gen cf hood for $200 on CL, but I need a 4th gen of course!
