Icon6 Best Wax

I love Meguiars Tech Wax, BUT there are a few others that do a good trick for different reasons:

Best Look - Meguairs Tech Wax

Best Cleaner Wax - Zymol

Best Wax for Keeping Clear Coat Healthy - NuFinish - Twice a Year

What do ya'll think???

Re: Best Wax

"Best wax" is always going to be a subjective term. Car care products are interesting in that people often become massive fans of one product over another, and will constantly defend it, regardless of whether it's acutally any good or not.

As for waxes, I don't like them at all. Waxes tend to not last through a hot summer (not knowing what the weather is like where you are, or even where that is doesn't help, but I digress) the same as a resin polish would.

As for me, I try and claybar the car every 12 months. For this I use the 3m blue clay bar, using AutoGlym car wash shampoo as a lubricant. (water is NOT a lubricant) I use the AG product because it's what I have, but any car wash soap would work.

Following the claybar, I use AutoGlym Super Resin polish. This is a product that I love, and was reccommended by dad's friend who owns a paint/panel shop.

(This photo was taken 12 months to the day after I last polished the car. Also see here for more pictures and product info)

Personally, (and I know I'm about to annoy a lot of people, but meh) I think if Meguires spent as much time developing their products as they did on marketing, their products would be far and away the best on the market. However currently they don't, which is why if you ask any professional detailer what products they use, very few if any Meguires products will be in their list.

Re: Best Wax

I've been using Zaino products for many years. I'm fanatical about a perfect finish on my cars, and besides my current Prelude, most of my cars/trucks have been high-maintenance-but-gorgeous-black...its always done an absolutely incredible job, and their products are very easy to use. You just have to see a Zaino'd car.

I agree with Brash on Meguairs, they make a decent product that I actually used for years, but they got tossed once I found Zaino. All their marketing is essentially word of mouth (they have a lot of rep on LS1.com, where I found them), their website is extremely informative and helpful, and they are the kind of company where calling customer service means the owner or one of his sons will likely take your call. I could go on and on, but seriously...just try it if you haven't.

I just had to include this, its their customer photo submission page. You wont believe some of these pics.

I too am a reformed Meguires customer. But I've heard good things about Zaino (though it appears the stuff is too hard to get down here). See also Zaino Show Car Polish Products by 1BadBB6

Re: Best Wax

I already know I am in a minority but I don't care for wax for a number of reasons.
The main one is that it dulls and after a few months you have to strip it off and start all over again. That can't be too good for the paint it's suppose to be protecting.

I preferred Nu finish to any wax until I started using the acrylic paint conditioner which in my opinion is actually better for the paint than wax or Nu finish and it works on vinyl trim too.

Re: Best Wax

I noticed the same when I used the TW Ice on a mate's car. And despite turtle wax's claims about their product using the in technology a look at the MSDS and ingredient list suggests the product hasn't changed since the 1970s.

When a company finds something that works they tend to stick with it.
They are quick to change the label and call them "new" or "improved" or by another name all together.
Most of it is just marketing ploys to get your money.

Re: Best Wax

Personally I think liquid waxes are a wank, but this is based only on the turtle wax ice liquid products (which I found to be st tbh)

They appear to have their place in the market, and when used properly can return a reasonable finish with minimal work. But it won't be a longlasting finish, and not an absolutely fantastic one.

mainly for show room apps were you need that last minute shine before the judging starts. (use it after you've already waxed the car with a paste wax)
