Help with painting wheels please..

Okay so I have done alot of research and understand everything I need to do so I can properly paint a set of rims. However I have not figured out how I can get a chrome lip on my rim and the rest painted.. anybody know the solution?

I want to paint a set of rims black with a chrome lip.

edit:

if this is in the wrong section please move it, i wasnt quite sure where to put it

Re: Help with painting wheels please..

well you can get chrome paint but it won't come out as well as actually getting the wheels chrome plated and chrome plating is pretty expensive, it depends on how perfect you want them and how much you want to spend really

Re: Help with painting wheels please..

Is it possible for them to just chrome plate the lip? That couldnt be toooo expensive. I realize this can get costly but its all in the grand scheme of things.

x2 on this, just polish the doo doo out of the lip area. start with 400 grit then just keep getting finer until you get to 2000. then polish it with some mothers. this should give you a nice shiny chrome like finish. dont forget to strip the wheels first.

Re: Help with painting wheels please..

So basically do this:

Strip finish off of wheels
Polish the f$%$ out of the lip
Tape lip and tire off completely
Paint whats left

But in more detail =D

Edit: (More detailed list)

Clean rims really well
Sand every motha ****in inch of the rim (start with like 400 and work till 1000)
Continue working on the lip with even finer sand paper
Clean again with acetone or something else
Tape off and paint rim with primer
Paint coats onto rims until necessary color desired
Paint clear coat onto rims
Remove tape
Polish lip

That sounds like a pretty good plan...I'm no expert but that sounds like it would work. Pics when you get done...

Re: Help with painting wheels please..

ya i think polished lips look better than chrome!
i'd say you should clear coat the polished lip though after you've it all polished up just to protect it but you should get a second opinion on that...

well i know for sure i am going to clear coat the black so it protects it.
