I'm thinking about picking up a cf hood. But I hate how a black cf hood looks on cars, just imo. No offense to anyone who does it. My question is can you take a cf hood, and get like a candy paint job of the color of your choice over it, so it would still be the color of my car, but you could see the cf detail under it?

well you can paint the CF just like anything else BUT i got two things to say about that

1) if your spending the money for CF why would you just toss paint on it?
2) i was told that you arent supposed to paint CF cause of how much they flex (the paint will crack and come off)

i mean you can do it if you want thats just my 2 cents

and i dont know about painting it and still seeing the CF weave

1) cause i would like a cf hood that is the same color as my car, but still able to see the weave, cause I personally don't like black cf hood slap on different color cars.

2) High end exotics have paint cf body panels all the time, so obviously there isn't a problem doing it. Everything I've read says it actually good for the hood because it will add another layer or 2 of protection from the sun, reducing cracking/flacking of the hood. I would just like to have a kinda of candy clear coat making the hood the same color.

you are right in saying it would be a waste of money to just grap a CF hood and paint over it. you will not see the weave through the paint. some get them for the weight reduction and paint them to match the car anyway. and you are right the do flex a lot more than a heavier stock hood but you can have the body shop add a flex additive like they put in bumpers so it can handle it.

you are correct there are companies that make diff colored cf patterns but none that make hoods for our cars (4th or 5th gen) you can have one custom made but you are looking at big bucks for that shyt. if you want the weight reduction and not the color you can look into a fiberglass hood but i wouldn't recommend it cuz they splinter, shatter, and break easily.

good luck

Carbon Fiber rules! Why dont you superglue colored clingwrap over it... I think that'll work.

Re: need help from the body work people and cf hood people.

Painting cf isn't a problem, the painter just needs to mix a little elasticiser in the paint. I struggle with the idea that painting a cf part is a waste of time, especially when you get the lightweight part, and you don't get the two-tone colour scheme. Personally I don't mind the two tone cf hood deal, but it does depend on the colour. But I know that some people really hate it, and that's alright too.

Personally, I'd paint any cf exterior part I got as a means of protecting the surface of the part. Also to keep it looking stock, since cf bits are generally a giveaway to the local law enforcement that you've spent money elsewhere too. Well, that and the fact that they're deemed to be illegal over here since they change the way the car's factory crumple zones work.
