Non-American Luders! Click here!

By request of another member here who has never been to America, I'm posting up these pictures I took a few years ago when I went out west. The US is a huge place, obviously, so every region is uniquely different. So I'm making this thread for all of us American Luders to show the non-Americans what it's like here. While we may have some poor leadership in our government, it still is truly the only place in the world I'd like to live. So without further ado, these were taken in summer 05.

These first 4 pics were taken at the hotel I stayed in in Las Vegas, Carlton-Ritz. It was my first time ever being in anything better than a Holiday Inn, lol.

This was a car in our parking deck

I was with my uncle and he didn't want to go out on the strip with the pyramid and all that stuff so this is all I got from where we did go:

How many people can say they went to Las Vegas for 3 days and didn't spend a single penny? I can! I was too young to gamble but I didn't even buy a souvenir. I was glad to get outta there. I witnessed cops beating someone up, and saw a bunch of people drinking their life away and sobbing because you know they went there hoping to get rich and spent every thing they had. It was really sad but oh well. It's their own fault. MOVING ON!

These were taken at the Hoover Dam. Before you ask, no, it's not a God Damn. I asked. (If you've watched Beavis and Butthead, you'd know why that's funny.)

These were at the Grand Canyon itself. Enough said. Supposedly it only rains a few times a year in Las Vegas and I just happened to come in on a day that it did. Our plane started descending over the Grand Canyon. It was my first time ever on a plane and the rain and wind were making it unstable. You better believe I was grabbing onto everything I could. Hahaha.

Notice the little Navajo village at the bottom.

Now this squirrel was really friendly. Apparently he was used to people feeding him. All the other squirrels I've seen run away or bite you.

I don't remember the names of any of the other canyons but here's some shots from leaving Arizona and going on into Utah.

We got to see a double rainbow. It was right beside it. Quite an interesting experience.

Here's some from the Petrified Forest. Really hard wood!

These deer run really funny. I forget what they're called but they're certainly not white tails like I'm used to here.

Um, we were flying around the mountain and almost took out these cows n our rental 4x4 Expedition.

And about this time, we came into Colorado. I ran out of batteries so I couldn't get any of the city. Mind you, this is late late June, and there's snow still on the mountains. It was 42 degrees when we came into Denver that night. We flew into Atlanta the next day and it was 99. I wanted to go back so bad, lol.

And I'll post some up of the fields and stuff around here since that's pretty much all south Georgia is. I live where the sweet Vidalia onion originated so when that season comes in, I'll get some pictures. Right now it's pecan time, lol.

from when we went to seattle.

the first starbucks

pike place fish market... it's where the fish mongers throw the fish around after you buy one.

seattle was built on top of the old seattle (long story). so here's a hotel... underground now.

and a street... also underground now.

of course, the space needle

view of downtown seattle from the space needle

the emp is a museum dedicated to music. pretty neat place.

I think it was a 427, Colin. I know a guy here with a 502 in one and his is a replica. I dunno bout the one in LV

Ed, I love Seattle. I wanna go so bad. I never knew it was that big though. Would you go again?
Also, is that your wifey in the tepee shot?

i would move to the pacific northwest in a heart beat. portland area to be specific. but yeah, i'd go to seattle again. it's the only place where i've eaten salmon and liked it. yes, that's the wifey next to the tepee... after a day of no showers.

I think I'm the only person on here who has seen you. I'm starting to think you're hiding something. I know your full name and what you look like. Don't make me Google you. ]
I love salmon! Did you listen to grunge music while you were there?

once you had salmon from the pacific northwest, you will never get salmon anywhere else. nope, no grunge music. i remember the radio was on in the rental car, but was too busy looking at the maps and street signs to pay attention to the radio.

I'm posting this from a previous thread I posted in about where I live (suburbs of) Philadelphia... the birthplace of our great country.

I think I'm one of the only people on here reppin Illadelph. Aight then I'll post some of my favorites.

This is the Masonic Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. It is one of the most beautiful buildings you will ever see. The photo does not do it any justice.

Ok, City Hall. The LARGEST MUNICIPAL BUILDING IN AMERICA! It has almost 700 rooms and is topped with a 37 foot bronze statue of William Penn (tallest statue atop any building in the world). This building has over 250 bronze statues all over it. Again, the photo does it no justice.

Independence Hall. What more needs to be said... the birthplace of our nation and original home to the Liberty Bell.

Philadelphia Museum of Art (and of course, Rocky!)

Olde City. Some of the oldest continually inhabited houses in America are in Olde City. It's like walking into the past. You can't even fit cars down most of these streets because they were designed with horses in mind.

Free Library

And lastly, the City of Brotherly Love itself.

A lot of people forget the historical importance of Philadelphia. New York City has overshadowed it in importance in the world we live in today, but a trip through the Olde City of Philadelphia is almost humbling when you think about the type of things that went on there 200+ years ago.

It was not only the first capitol of America, but also home to many other firsts, such as:
  • First "modern skyscraper" in America
  • First computer (ENIAC, completed 1946)
  • First zoo
  • First coin mint
  • First stock exchange
  • First (and second) Bank of the United States
  • First post office
  • First municipal water system
  • First university (UPenn)
  • First hospital (as well as first cancer hospital, pediatric hospital, medical school, and eye hospital)
  • First fire company (also first fire engine)
  • First public library
  • First botanical garden

So, as you can see, I'm very proud and very passionate about where I live.

/rant

Yes Rick, I took them when I was 15. Wish Idda had a Prelude to put in all the shots.
We got all these great shots of Philly and yall are amazed by a friendly squirrel?

I always wanted to visit the historic sites of Philly but hear the crime rate is higher than most major American cities. I'd still like to visit DC one day.

Yeah... the crime rate is terrible... but it's only in the ghettos... The historic parts are safe as can be. The ghetto's of philly really bring the rest of it down.

Yeah...I doubt it's original... they are extremely rare and EXTREMELY expensive... but... even if it's a kit car... i still wouldn't leave it sitting in a parking garage lol.

1967 Mazda Cosmo with a 10A rotary is my classic car of choice... Well, I like a 396 Chevelle SS too.
