The Adventures of Lucky

Well, with the red car getting ready to be sold, the fraternal twins are going to be split again, so I'm giving Lucky its own thread. I put it here since it isn't really a build thread. For the most part it's a "here's where I took Lucky recently" thread, but whenever I work on it I'll have progress here too.

For the uninitiated, Lucky is a black 1991 Si ALB with a camel-colored interior. It's an uncommon color combination; I've only ever seen one other one like this and it was in a junkyard. It's in fantastic shape for its age; not perfect but it won't take too much to make it that way. It got its name from being saved from a trip to the junkyard by a previous owner. If it didn't already have a nickname I'd call it Amanda because its, um, personality when being driven is similar to most Amandas I know (let's just say it doesn't like it when I'm gentle )

The original plan was to take it out of my garage this past Thursday, when all the other cars were unavailable, but it too was acting up from having a dead battery, so after charging it for a day we got it going. Here's my first trip, going around the neighborhood.

The car is very fun to drive, and it acts like it wamts me to drive it hard, although it's still getting the cobwebs of not being driven for 2 years out of its system. It smoked some at first, but the B21 in it did that when Unit 1 wasn't driven for awhile too. Sometimes when I shift wrong it'll bog down, and will only return to acting normal when I stop and let it sit for about 15 seconds. I'm still getting used to not having to put my foot all the way down to shift like all the other Preludes, so I'm still getting the timing down.

Later Friday night I drove to my weekly car meets. I took this on the way back.

More to come soon.

Re: The Adventures of Lucky

You laugh, but it was a legit nickname for it when the NSX first came out because of how similar they look. I'm getting that for a plate when I get around to putting it in my name.

Re: The Adventures of Lucky

^^ been sitting for two years, clearing out the lungs pic.

A few miles later, lungs all cleaned out, she decided she finally has an owner who won't keep her on a shelf most of the time.
I think I put 88 miles or less on her between Oct 012 and the other day. 25 of that was bringing her home from the guy we bought it from.
Now a third of that she had a broken motor. Then fans (or lack of) plagued her a couple months. Once the fans got to working we mothballed her because of other projects.

Re: The Adventures of Lucky

^^ no need to frown sir. Apparently race shelf cars are all over 'Merica.

I recently heard of a 1943 plymouth that was raced on the beach at daytona (pre speedway) brought home, cleaned up and parked in a shed on the owners farm upon arrival back to Va. Apparently it's still in that shed all perfect except for the tires it sits on.

Edit:
Apparently it got driven from time to time until the late 50's, but not since then.
