Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

I see what you mean about the 5th gen. I wonder at times why Honda even did the 5th. But I'm glad they did, 'cause I sure did have fun with Unit 6095.
Plus it lead me to meeting you guys.
I can live without 4ws steering for fear everything else would feel like I'm driving a school bus.

So you prefer the brains to go with the beauty.

Man, you got me wanting mona's red headed sister now.

Nice ride Chris, I really love those cars, there's a red one by my shop and I can always tell it's him without even looking, they sound beautiful. I would love to have one of these but unfortunately we will be getting a Pontiac G8 according to the wife, you know how that goes. Lol

Bang Bang! Scooooooooore.

That must be 1 big .... @$s... socket holder.

I get the tool cart, box and and shelf unit... but heavy duty chains to sit and work? Maybe to drag that big.... @$s... socket holder across the floor? I was going to get a Craftsman pnuematic work stool but opted for an advance auto one. Craftsman is cheaper and a little nicer tho.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

It's holding onto 11 pieces total, and they come with trays. Also, I have 2 seperate mechanic tool sets with 1/2" drives anyway. The garage is gonna look siiiiiiiiccckk when I'm done with it, just needed a little organization and priority grouping. My husky set from 2001 will be my trunk kit, my craftsman made in the usa is gonna be my base kit in the garage and all the other tools I've been lugging going in there too.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Pix of that siiiiiiiiick garage please.

I guess when you drive GM' you need half inch drive. Husky tools are fine. The chinese sears stuff is exactly the same minus the logo.

When I lived at my pop's house as a grown up his garage was all hooked up with various 'shops' as it were. He had machinist stuff, various hobby stuff scattered about and clutter galore. I wanted to cut a board one day and couldn't spin to do it. It took about a year but I had a wood shop, bike shop, skateboard shop, his gunsmith shop, any yard tool you could ever need , all his stuff and room for a car in his 36x24. Joist hooks are priceless. Fast forward 6 years and now it's a storage shed again. The 'shops' are still there, but getting to them can be interesting. There are sk and craftsman 1/2" tools in there somewhere. All standard though.
There was only USA made when they were new... Carter was president.

It must feel great to be getting yours in shape. And there IS a certain pride in knowing your tools were made stateside.
One day I'll get back in my dad's garage and get it back in shape. Gotta build that rocking ch!ir someday.
When you live somewhere and look at it often, the motivation is easier. Outta sight outta mind.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Truth! Once a generation acquires a skillset / trade and passes it on to the next with the tools, that family can prosper. And honestly I always wanted a organized garage where i can do most work minus engine swaps and transmission work. The GMC is 6800 lbs and I'm very uncomfortable with working alone on it. 1000 ways to die comes to mind, lol

Mona is one of a kind, she deserves kid glove TLC, lol. So I threw together 3 industrial shelves (for all those car care products) tool cart, two rolling tool chests, 2 portable boxes, cantilever and open box with 3 shelves, some tray liners, and my vice. Need to 3-1 the tiny stuff and axle grease the bolts. It's only 40% done, but that was the hardest part.

Edit: There was a time Husky was comparable to craftsman. Last night I lubricated the internals and locking balls on and with all the tooling i did with the set, zero wear, minimal rust. 2001. Blue point, Williams, SK, Matco, are just silly expensive for American. I mean I will always opt for American, but sears are the only ones meant for every day joe. So jaded about tools. American pride vs Sold out savings argh.

I'll take American pride any day. Although I did just accidentally buy some chinese made sears wrenches... when I find the receipt, they're going back!

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

It was either the "show off your toolbox" thread or 1/527 pages of SOB thread i mentioned sears went china when I was looking for a low profile jack. But seriously Ogs, stopping by a snap on truck for the exact set i just bought from sears (made in the usa), was $80.00 shipped vs $300 and change with no socket holder.

I would like to see the strippers they hire to fabricate their tools.

I don't believe lifetime warranty means a socket should be $34. I have yet to break a quality tool yet. Strip screwrivers? All the time

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Snap On etc for a few specialty tools. The video camera with 6' flexible lens and the magnetic can coolie...
But sears tools are pretty good for what we do. I bought the chinese jack and put a honda sticker and a pz sticker on it. Problem solved... unless the stickers are chinese made too.

Ogs, there is no usa 14mm articulating ratchet end/box end that I can find.
I have 10,12,and 15... apparently 14 only available in the set you got...

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Remembered the dual exhaust from the 1971 buick skylark still hangs in the attic of my dad's garage. Car was gone in... 81???

Saw a blue, not quite gray, not green gto today. Oversized wheels or lowered one. It was a beautiful car.
At first glance I thought it was an acura... but the gto emblem caught my eye.
All this in 5oclock traffic at 70mph so not much time. But it was a super sweet car.
Thought of you Chris.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Yeah Mike, despite it's shortcomings, the GTO is becoming iconic a little at a time. I'm glad I found one the way I did, because it's not an uphill battle putting out fires every high mileage car gets from neglect.

What's with the flex head wrenches anyway? Offset wrenches or crow foot adapters do the same job, and you get the 14mm head no prob. I'm waiting for the sale on those and elbow ratchet wrenches. I've been lucky not to need those. But if you need that locomotive piston motion, they are boss

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

The 10mm paid for itself removing a screw on a fender saturday. Instead an 1/8 turn, flip wrench over, 1/8th turn flip wrench, that screw came of like a lug nut on petty's 73 superbird...

I liked the crows foot tools you showed in the remove fender thread and figure on owning a set by Christmas hopefully.

Oh, and when you find it, multiply the metric power figure by 1.34 to see what HP this deal puts out.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Guys, P.I.T.A news!!!

Sanitation dept scratched Mona's hood (7" long). I'm not posting pics cause GM uses primer white under black paint, so it looks 1000000x worse. Not to metal, but am filing a claim.

Wish me luck!!
