Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

I've seen the redline on the tempests, catalinas, and grand prix. Very doable, rather do a white/silverish pinstripe with the red pinstripe paired off, or make the rim lip red instead. I have a crud of planning to do...

I can get an PMD overlay sticker for my center caps to bring the wheels to life. Been raining all day in Nyc,

Found a site:

CENTER CAP OVERLAYS

CENTER CAP OVERLAYS SITE TWO

I'm posting it here to remember and share. I actually have OZ center caps in storage, I'll grind out locks for the DD rims, then "click" new center caps!!! I'll retrieve them and post some photos tomorrow!!!

That's whack bro. No charcoal grill either?

GreatGrand batman...just noticed the other zero in the fine.

Now the red lip on the rim? Nice!!!
I wonder what's so special about those stick on letters, the letter or the glue? I remember seeing tires that the outline of the letter was white. Ever seen those?

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

FINALLY FINISHED THE EASY PARTS

I did look high and low for some vinyl to dress up Mona's interior , I will do a review also on this stuff:

3M Ni-Doc VINYL

It is a vinyl with the "feel and texture" of Carbon Fiber, same stuff quality dash kits are made with, unless you're a true player and buy a CF molded to your dash... anyways... MOAR

Bought a roll of 24" x 48" on ebay, Shines nice and has a smooth feel. That's a lot for what I plan to do, but I also want to be able to replace any vinyl that will lose it's stickiness, although 4 years outdoor is damn long. 10 indoors.

Very pliable, forgiving and very easy to cut. You can freehand this stuff and still look like it was laser cut. but ... I still had help:

Since I have drafting and drawing supplies, razors and an exacto knife, it's just right. Follow the lines on the back, use a marker, the waxy surface doesn't like pencil or pen

:::Practice runs:::

Before and after is just Now the eyeglass holder was a little tricky and not solid plastic, but the result is till good.

The bottom

The sides. You can also flip the pattern to dizzify people

The drafting board and drafting rulers are for the Center control console, still a work in process, gotta draft the thing from scratch. Gotta CAD??? LOL

That's to make the perfect circles and cut them out. I'll show how when the overlay is done.

Now the top part of the Dash!!!! easy peasy!

***fun fact: this is where the Monaro Voltmeter and Oil Pressure Gauges go, if I wanted to break off $600.00 american. No thanks. Here's the Pics:

It looks crooked, because the cover was meant to aim the gauges at the driver from the center console.

See?

Anyway, Did the Center console tabs, the pocket under the radio, the Sunglasses holder and the top console. with the Center overlay, I am also going to make a second layer to contrast the black.... moar pics soon!!!!

Eyeglass holder?
Your car is an old hippie car!!!

I guess gm figured old hippies would dig the new gto for nostalgic trips to skynyrd and rolling stones shows.

Or bring Mona home for an ACDC concert. I wonder if them guys still tour...

And all their songs are VERY appropriate for the GTO/MONARO

Saw a beee you tee full red 04 on a car lot today. $14440.
This lot specializes in low mileage cream puff vettes, old chevelles etc. So the goat is in good company.
I did not stop to check the mileage knowing there's a 50/50 chance it would have payments in my budget range. But it sure was a looker.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

It's has a way of making a place in your heart. Beware, especially due to decent events in your neck of the woods mike. Mona's sisters do not like aftermarket alarms and no shop worth it's salt will wire the car up. Talking about a 3 day process. And you loose a lot of factory options. Maybe add a sensor?

Red with red leather.... Soooooo fuggggggin sexy

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

I saw it while stopped at a light. When it dawned on me it was mona's red headed cousin the light had turned green and folks behind me were saying go #1. Didn't scope out the interior. And it was a route I don't usually take. But will certainly make an effort to get back and scope out that leather.

This car was begging me to take it somewhere out of the rain. It deserves a better home than I can provide. Recent events or not. Under an oak tree or on the street is no place for a garage queen like monas sister?, cousin?, girlfriend?

Well as i've said, my GTO lives on the streets of NYC, i'm aiming to make a mancave between now and fall, pics here soon,so she could relax more. She's taken her licks and well she's still here, and more ornery than ever!

Cutting up the rest of the Ni-doc for a rear bumper / trunk applique and dash-console goodies. Might even make a fender vinyl for where hurrican sandy kissed her, lulz

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

^^ still using that 1 sheet?

Folks where I live with s2k's generally have the metal pole/canvas walls type shelter around them.
Seems to be an s2k thing. Anyway they're cheap and durable.
I've never checked on them after hurricane.

If I ever paint either of the twins, they'll get shelter. I've been playing with life size hot wheels since the mid 80's. Every one needed a paint job. But the shopping mall dings were never a huge deal either.
The broken glass pissed me off tho.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Bob lutz when he had a job at GM was going to have a plant make Holden cars and parts in the USA to cut shipping and costs, (Commodore = Caprice, UTE = El Camino) all depending on how good the GTO sold. The G5 GT with the VTEC personality and G6 GXP were VERY promising, but too late for the Company. Too many years of the "Gm shared platform strategy", and the GTO was a "limited edition" production car.

The 2013 UTE is Still kicking so there's that.

Are you sure you aren't really Dennis Miller?
Some of his comments go over my head too.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Just look up the holden website or google holden lineup. I've not been this interested in another car line aside from 89-96 Hondas. Sure not classic muscle car, but the numbers on paper are promising

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Sounds like you know your vettes too.
It's too bad the plan by mr lutz hasn't panned out.
I always liked the el camino and was figuring on restoring one until I met my wife who had 3 kids...
Being a Ford guy the idea was an el rancho but parts are impossible to find.
Maybe one day an el prelude..., huh? Wudda ya think?

Maybe a someday for Unit 1

So the 97-01 never floated your boat, aye?

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

The look is great. But stateside 5th gens had no 4WS, and fought against Acura and high end accords. Not fair really.

The truth about ladderframe cars. No need for uniframe construction. Monocoque frames are a smarter design, but mot meant for taking a load on the frame. Weight rating comes into play. It's the little things that add up to the whole picture

And yes I love technologically dense cars. Just riddled with tech to make a symphony of mechanics
