Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Dirt repellent??? I usually just armor all the engine plastics after they dry. Repeat as needed with a rag wet with armor all.

The metal stuff I use ajax or comet in a paste. Rinse. Mother's chrome polish to get a coat of weather proofing. A box of q tips, toothbrushes and kaboom or simple clean.

Truckload of patience.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Thanks for the list.

Have you ever tried bar keepers friend?
It's like comet but no bleach. I used it on brake dust laden rims recently with a lot of success.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Gonna tape up my oil pan and go engine paint in a can (airplane engine paint) I have gold, and that will look sharp when I get around to it. Maybe hit my valve covers with it too.... Oh yeah. Time to start looking at designs.

The comet is for the underneath parts, the kaboom/simple green is for top parts no. I will probably just use kaboom and simple green and keep the process gentle.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Simple green smells nice too.
I hosed off a rubber part today, sprayed it with simple green, wiped with a dry washcloth, and bam! Nice clean part.
Been using simple green since the mid 90's when bmx star dennis mcoy told me i'd get better brake shoe traction on my non chromed alluminum wheels. Dennis is quite the prankster. Actually I had zero grip after, but my rims were clean and smelled wonderful. Great chain/bearing cleaner.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Damn, Guys! Gonna hafta start charging $2000/hr, lol!

I got it done, just waiting for the paint to dry over night,

First: prep. The Skid Plate weighs 17 lbs, I swear I can get a 13 second flat 1/4 mile and 2mpg more if I kept this off.

An idea:

Rust from scrapping. Washed off the grime and used 1000 grit wetsand and AJAX grease cutter soap to clean. I also Prepped my trottle cable bracket, it has a pinch of oxidation,

After the sanding:

no more brown...

Ok, I had G2 brake caliper paint stored for when I felt like touching up my spare calipers. this stuff takes forever to settle, but when it does, it's not half bad. Pretty strong against scrapes too.

It comes with a reactor/hardener, paintbrush, mixing stick and caliper cleaner.

once mixed, you have 24 hours to apply, or it turns rubber. LITERALLY.
OK, Taped off the bolt holes

and used engine paint

with gun adapter

worth more than the 1.00 I paid for it, like 30.00, made real eaven comfortable work of the job.

The reason I chose silver was I wanted to see how dirty my plate actually is from now on. Also looking at the paint can, I could not do both sides. Three coats later, Flip:

The Funny part is the pic give me more credit for an even coat than I actually did. using a 1" paintprush, I made short work of the plate.
I wasn't really interested in making a mona lisa out of the skid side, seeing NYC is the number one city for bottoming out. I just wanted to stop the rust and add a little color....
to match the calipers. The throttle bracket got the same treatment, green against the engine, silver engine paint for the inside

While I was waiting for the paint to literally dry, I rotated my tires.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Well I've been procrastinating, honestly. Also stopping rust is always a good thing. I caught it when I was routing the positive from the Alternator. Got out early from work, and TADA...

Don't have a compressor or wanna use the trigger sprayer from the G2 video. Also all my gauges are green led so that gonna accent the dash!!! So tempted to make an AKU GTO....

Next thing: my two tiny ass grilles and bumper grill.... Depends on my next week.

I so want these..... Someone stop me!

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Same rims from SOB thread soooo long ago. They look ugly on preludes, but are fantastic on GTOS. Go to tire rack and look up the ASA's that look like that, mount em on then test GTO. :sweetjesus:

Forged and Chrome?

My only question is will pontiac center caps work on them? That would be a super duper bonus imo.

No, they come with a full cap that removes with a tool. No center cap needed.

I have a second set of factory GTO rims I have to strip, refinish and paint like the classic tempest rims, see if I can get lettering that fit to spell out PMD then apply. Oh yes, i like the. BBS, but I'd have to sell all my gto rims to offset the cost aanndd make space.... Choices choices

keep the original wheels if you don't have space for another set.

I really like the bbs wheels though, classy.

good work on the caliper paint, looks good homey

I was up for a spell last night homies, deciding to pull the trigger for the BBS, my factories are in fact 26 lbs, so they're pressure CAST(but rare).... I could blow some tax money... Rim hording popped into my head, but painting them to look like these feels worth while...

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

the PMD lettering is classic. the factory wheels will look great done in the retro style. just the kind of subtle stuff that sets a car apart from the pack.

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Alas no. A painful decision, but I have to install my hotchkis, pedders and king spring parts first.

Already picked up the aircraft remover, vht ceramic header paint, and steel epoxy mix, if my memory serves, i have a hairline crack in one rim, barely noticeable. Why make it worse. Pics to come by weekend. One set will be completely stripped, and double coated painted high gloss enamel for DD purposes, and the set on mona will get the PMD look.

Excited!!!

should also get a tire paint pen in white to color the tire letters, for a real muscle car look

Re: :::Sideswipe SI::: 2004 GTO AKA "MONA"

Yes. The DD rims, I'll do over this weekend, (weather willing) swap the original's tires over, then I can take my time on my aging clean rims. Actually, Coopers sell alot of tires in whiteletter, or spend like $50.00 in pens??? Outline "contiental extreme contacts" ? RIP that's gonna take a while.

Bah ah ah ah ah...
Your car's gonna be a gote...

Tempest lookin' wheels... yesssss..
Hmm, how bout a red line? vs the rolling billboard. I like the raised white letter thing, but you could spray on a red line.

Red line.... I have red paint.... (Um, don't ask) I have about 15 cans, of all varieties of paint, from ceramic, airplane engine, ultra enamel (satin, gloss, half gloss ) and reg engine paint. If I must, i'll score some more red.
