...or the closest we will ever come... 2012 civic si k24 6 spd LSD Torque ,,,, drove it off the lot with 3 miles on the ODO... breaking her in easy...

We wrecked my wife's Ford Focus ST (pics here). So, I just got this car as a DD for both my wife and me (she is not able to work due to health issues, but still has to take the car some days each week for appointments, etc...)... I will still drive the lude a time or two a week.

more pics @ above link...

This car was a pain in the ass to get... we ordered one in sunburst orange pearl Aug. 1... was supposed to be here by the end of the month... then they said a couple more weeks MAX... wasn't here (it was more complicated than this, but not worth typing)... we waited and waited and the eventually they tell us they are recalling that color and the blue to to pigment issues and pealing paint... they had a black scheduled for delivery, so we said... WE'LL TAKE IT!!!... was here within a couple weeks after that. (they also have a white coupe at the dealer we signed at, but we preferred the sedan and the black...)

Re: 6th Gen. Prelude!!!

Nice buy man!

Civic SI was my original intent, but due to its high cost mainly and its inferior styling (as compared to the lude), I got the lude! =P

Looks mad clean though, bet it drives like a beast with that engine upgrade (as opposed to earlier SI's).

Re: 6th Gen. Prelude!!!

^Yeah, the 4 door looks better all round, AND the insurance is cheaper... so that was a given... We haven't had it much above 4,000 rpms yet... it will be a while before we test out that vtec monitor, :P...

Thanks for the compliments.... I think we will hold onto the muffler for a while yet Josh, lol. I need to skip on over to some civic forums and see what I can find out about this thing holding onto revs so persistently... if you rev up a little "higher" (4kish versus 2.5ish...) it doesn't just drop revs slow, it actually just hangs at 4kish for a second before moving at all... seems like more going on than just flywheel weight... I still have a stock flywheel in the lude and it doesn't hold revs at all like that... only thing I have found quirky this far... just passed 200 miles tonight!

SoFlaa... I don't blame you... they are nice... we needed more mpgs and daily practicality... I still hope to get an AWD/RWD toy in the future to compliment my lude.

Enjoy your civic!
Will do, and will do. They say it has "honda break in oil" in it... I need to look that up... should we wait 3,000 miles to get it changed, or do it sooner? I've read mixed things...

yeah... we skipped the navi... not worth the what? 2 grand. didn't you have a thread about your decision? I can't remember if I chimed in or not.

The lude's looks were like the pinnacle of exterior design, but it gets better mileage that the lude... it will take a while for that to pay for the difference in price! It's nice to have a civic that pulls like a prelude in the low/mid range... between the k24 and the fact that the 8th gens are holding their value so well after being broken in by testosterone overloaded kids who get their cars repoed, we decided the new one was the most logical choice... people keep acting surprised that we aren't dogging the **** out of it... apparently they don't understand why we bought new...

---------------------------

When they judge the car on it's own merits, most people really loved the way it drives... some don't like the lowered redline compared to the 8th gen, but you can't argue with the torque... and from reading it seems it's pretty easy to get this beast spinning faster if one so chooses... lots of untapped potential (oil pump would be a place to start)

some of the things we looked at before buying... I was a little nervous based on what I read in the comparison to the mazdaspeed 3 and the 6th gen civic si... but I actually find the suspension to be quite pleasing and it certainly gets better mileage than the mazdaspeed 3... we are averaging about 31mpgs this far.

comparison to 6th gen

2012 Honda Civic Si Review: Car Reviews

comparison to mazdaspeed 3... would have been at least $2,000 more and get 25 versus 31 mpgs... it was not TOO hard of a decision... esp when looking at that mazda front end... yuck.

Dyno chart looks somewhat familiar... this was not my lude's best pull... but its the prettiest chart. We might have to take the civic and lude head to head at the track one day...

Re: 6th Gen. Prelude!!!

^ lol.. no offense taken. I actually like the plain look (go look in an exige sometime... very driver oriented)... I was afraid it might by chintzy (sp?) due to some of the reviews... it's nicer than I expected.

I don't like the chrome accents in the cabin... they are pretty minor, but I am opposed to any reflective sh*t in the interior...

Yeah I had a thread about mine too, I still love it.

I'm sure it feels really good, I have been starting to get more use to my '10 Si and even though the prelude has more HP & TQ I feel like the Si just pulls better. So with the new 2012's having much better TQ at a lower RPM I bet it feels much better then the prelude.

I can't quite speak about the power yet... hasn't seen much more than 4k thus far, but it feels good (comparable to the lude) in the low range... I think my lude is a little quicker... maybe just louder, lol.

As far as handling goes... in stock form I think I might like it almost as much as the lude. It has good feedback and steering feel, and only minor bodyroll at "reasonable" speed around the sharp corners. I think the prelude has a superior suspension in some regards (no double wishbone on the civic, but it does have stock LSD), and you can still make an argument for the feel of hydraulic steering, but that's the price of progress I suppose.

Overall... considering the age ludes are getting to be, the Si offers a pretty reasonable alternative as an economic daily driver that will churn through a little snow, but also be a blast to drive.

I'll be updating as soon as we can start letting the civic have a little fun...

Re: 6th Gen. Prelude!!!

Not just an lsd, But Helical! The only thing is it took Honda how long to incorporate the HELICAL, when the 2002 Sentra spec-v had it? I mean Nissan Dropped the ball when they made the new body style, but up to 2006, Sexy Sentras.

The major advantage of getting a used car with <4,000 miles... it's already broken in! Demo specials are soooo rare nowadays!

^

Forgot to mention this before... thought of one thing I don't approve of... the japanese were selfish and set the shifter up for right hand drive..... I would LOVE to have the shifter closer to me and the ebrake on the far side...
