Aug updates (bday month)

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've done anything to my lude and actually have some good plans for this month and being my bday on August 22nd the gifts and money is great stuff!

So here is my plans this month:
-CF hood DONE
-Rust repair (8/23-8/25)
-Debage rear H emblem (8/23-8/25)
-Fix dent on trunk (8/23-8/25)
-Struts installed (8/26)
-Tie bar installed (8/26)

So first, I have my CF hood and I love it! VIS OEM style hood. A couple question on the hood. Do I/Should I get hood pins? I would prefer not to but just wanted to see what you guys thought. The other thing was I noticed the washer jets are on the hood (I thought there were on the plastic piece next to the wipers. What do you guys do with the washer jets and the plastic "gasket" around the head lights? I probably already know the answer (drill holes) but I'm really nervous to do that.

Here's the hood:

Sorry guys, not sure about getting the trunk, I'd loose the spoiler. I didn't know you use to have a CF hood Russ, why don't you have it anymore?

Really? I guess it was awhile back. Look in my profile pics. I got into a little fender bender (to say the least) 2 years ago.

looks good, one of the few ludes that a CF hood actually looks at home. you could still use your spoiler, just don't know if you would wanna drill holes in that CF lid.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

i think you should deffinetley get hood pins. i was ify bout it at first, but the way the hood shook at highway speeds and true the latch on the hood is metal, but it is attached to fiberglass which is not the strongest materiel in the world and is very much prone to cracking. and besides, some hood pins dont look so bad. this is what mine look like. and im not sure what area you live in, but in my neihboor hood, if its shiny it will get stolen, so mine have a key and a lock so you wouldnt be able to steal it. and drilling holes isnt something i reccomend you do yourself cuz u gonna need a good dril and carbide tips which is something not everyone has and if u try to do it yourself you can crack the hood. i suggest find a shop, cuz if they screw up, they have to buy u a new on. :) and if the latch does break, and that hood flies up on you at highway speeds, (no matter how much other ppl argue, it DOES happen, very often,) its gonna crack your windshield, EF up the corners on yr hood, and crack the hood as well. dont mean to scare you, but thats just the truth. i got an invader style hood for my bday in may, also from VIS. and the hood pins are like $30-45.

IF you get hood pins, which i dont recomend doing unless u absolutely need them, is getting Aerocatch hoodpins. Best hoodpins i ever got.

Yeah the spoiler would probably fit, but I was thinking more along the lines of it would probably look strange to have the CF trunk and blue spoiler. I'm pretty happy with just the hood.

Thanks for all the info andrey, I'm going to mess around with the hood this weekend and testing the latch and everything, I really don't want to get hood pins but if the latch on the hood starts to weaken I'll have no choice. The ones in that pic you showed looked pretty good, I would really want to smallest and most unnoticeable ones I can find. Also having the extra security would be nice too.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

no problem dude. my pins ar CF too so they match pretty well. and the latch will stay fine for a while, its what the latch is holding on to. in example, look at your stock hood latch. its metal bolted on to metal. so its safe and secure. when u look at the latch on VIS hood, its jst fibergalss all around then kinda out of no-where the latch jst sticks out right? not rly bolted on, jst kinda glued. n thats what starts to get week with driving conditions, opening closing hood, outside temp (rly cold then rly hot). thats when it starts to give in. in most cases it jst happens without warning. thats most of the ppl i talked to that experienced it. i didint want hood pins either, you can search around and see i posted questions on the topic too, but id rather be safe then sorry. especially if i spent $500 on something.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

I wouldn't get the hood pins unless u really want em..

My hood shakes at very very high speeds.. Bud I've gone faster than u need to go at a constant speed and it wasn't going anywhere.. Plus they look like dookie and ur car won't look oem

However if u do get hood pins so it doesn't shake at all I remember seeing somebody making their own hood pins and it was completely flat and looked alot better that regular hood pins.. U could get some cf ones but it's still gonna look like ur car has nipple rings

I'll try to find that link of the diy hood pin

And I noticed that the windshield washer sprayers where in the wrong place to.. But I just never re-installed it after the cf hood

Oh and dude sell me those GP's!!! For real though.. Whenever u get new shoes on there let me know and I WILL buy them

A buddy of mine did mention that I should keep an eye on the hood latch and see if it's getting weaker or what not. Thanks again for the heads up and all the info.

Yeah I hear ya on the pins, not really want to take that route but if I get nervous about the strength of the hood latch I might have no choice. If you do find that DIY link hit me up! Sorry man, unfortunately my wheels are not the GP's, they look a lot like 'em but they're just the MB Weapon's.

Thanks man, I'll definitely have the washer jets on the OEM hood when it's on during the winter but I dont really use it a lot in the summer so I might be ok to leave it off.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

Thanks Soto. Well there has been a small delay. I won't get the car back until Friday for the rust repair and trunk work. But I did take some before pics so I'll post all the before and after pics when I get the car back.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

Hood looks good man. Just curious about how must rust you've got on your car, and how much you're paying to have it fixed? My back driver's side wheel well is starting to rust, so just curious.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

As for the hood pins I'll probably wait and keep an eye on the hood latch. Haven't really put much though into getting pins or not. I'm putting the hood away soon for winter.

I'm not sure how much the rust repair is right now, but I'll let you know when it's all done. The rust I had was pretty extreme: classic rear 1/4 panel wheel well location, rocker panel on the passenger side needed to be completely replaced, and underneath the car towards the rear had to be patched up as well. I'll post before and after pics of the lude.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

Damn! I'm going to have to bookmark this site. If I were to get hood pins these would probably be the ones I do. Wish their site had images of their product on a hood. Like the difference between flush and plus flush.

Re: Aug updates (bday month)

Well not going to get the car back until Monday, and I should actually get it this time! For you viewing pleasure.....well, actually it's not all that pleasurable to view these pictures. I wanted to wait until I got the car back to show the before and after pictures together but I wanted to show you guys how bad it was. So here are the before pictures and on Monday I'll post after pictures:

Here is an old picture of the rocker panel so it was a lot worse when I dropped the car off. It was so bad they cut the entire rocker panel off and welded on a new one.

Here are the pictures of the rust before I dropped off the car, here is the driver side (pictures are not great, it was pretty wet out when I took them):

And here are pics of the passenger side:

And here are pics of the dent on the trunk that is going to get fixed as well:
