Prelude Dismantle, Stage 1

Hey guys,

I've been working on dismantling my 98 base for the last month and a half and with your help a couple of times I finally got the block out which I consider to be a huge milestone. Here's a few pics up to this point in my project.

Re: Prelude Dismantle, Stage 1

This is my first time, what a learning experience! Most of it wasn't too tough but getting the damn driveshaft out of the tranny made me wish really bad that the prelude was rwd lol

Re: Prelude Dismantle, Stage 1

i would suggest every newb attempt a motor swap themselves, it really is one of the best learning experiences ever. it would prolly squash 95% of all the "what is this part/whats it do/where does this go?" threads.

you rebuilding the engine or what?

Re: Prelude Dismantle, Stage 1

Yup. Thought about swapping but I already have an h22 and honestly its only got 100000 miles on it so rebuilding seemed to be the way to go.

Can't wait to do rip the motor outta my car in a few weeks here... Then trying to squeeze it into a Civic.

Re: Prelude Dismantle, Stage 1

I loved my JDM H22 swap I did in my old 99 civic hatch. The power to weight ratio was nice never had a prob with the steering at all, I did swap the spings and struts out, it was just a fun car I plan on doing again after i finish my 98 Prelude

Re: Prelude Dismantle, Stage 1

I've been slowly but surely working on finishing the removal stage of my engine restoration project. I got the pistons out tonight, she's pretty much an empty block now.

Getting the crankshaft pulley bolt out was a bitch and a half. Honda dealer had to use a huge ass impact wrench for me and it still ended up being way, way cheaper than buying the damn pulley holder tool.

My work area is so friggin cluttered I'm a very disorganized person!

Found this belt, already broken, wedged in between my timing belt and other gears deep inside the block so nothing could spin. At least part of my problem with the car.

I've learned so ridiculously much as a result of this project and I'm not even near done yet. You can read about how an engine works but I never really fully comprehended it til I was staring at all the parts lol.

Now I gotta figure out what I want to do with it. Turbo is definitely an eventual goal but not so much in the budget right now. I want to replace any components that need to be now with ones that are strong enough to hold up to some boost. I've been doing a lot of research around this site on boosting and although it's a goal it's definitely a very long-term one.

Currently I have an automatic; it would be a good time to do a 5 speed swap and I found a cheap 5 speed on Craigslist last week but it was for a long gear tranny which would prolly be slower than my auto right now lol definitely wouldn't make it worth the cost or the work when my auto is still in excellent condition. My general understanding is that stock auto tranny can handle 6-7 lbs of boost, would that be accurate?
