HCCAFan's 2000 SH

OK, so this is the car I just bought last week. The only other Prelude I have had was a 97 that one of my employees wrecked, I bought from him, and parted out. That said, I completely dismantled that car so I have turned just about every screw, nut or bolt on one of these (except engine internals) but never really drove one before.

The curious things about the car are pictured. I'd love to hear your thoughts on opinions on it. You're not going to hurt my feelings as I didn't do anything to it but drive it so far.

First off, crap ass paint job. It's only slightly better than a rattle can job but at least they didn't paint the tires or exhaust. Is this a factory color? It seems to have a blue/purple hue to it to me;

The interior seems pretty nice. Nothing interesting here;

Stock exhaust, all the way through the hedder;

OK. Now it gets wierd. First thing that I don't like is a crappy battery. Secondly is the AEM cold air. I'm in the market for a type S intake if anyone is selling;

Next up is the rationale behind a person that removes the heat shield but doesn't mess with the hedder. Why? To look cool? It's obviously not been removed, the bolts are untouched;

On to the more alarming. Keep in mind this is a stock exhaust car. Who in the hell goes through the trouble of cam gears and hacking up the timing cover on a car that is virtually stock?

And lastly, for the scariest part, which almost makes me understand the timing gears...What the hell is this? It almost looks like "Mr. I'm gonna leave it stock and take off the heat shield" decided to direct port nitrous into each intake runner, but, it is not drilled all the way through. Each runner had a screw stuck in it except the last one on the end. There is water in it in this picture because I just sprayed the engine off but the hole does not go through and obviously if it did it would run like ****. I tried to get another screw out and the head popped off. Makes me want to buy another intake mani but I want to know if there is any other possibilities here. Maybe a fake nitrous set up?

Last two questions. This oil seeping out of the AEM intake. Does this mean my PCV system is fuxored or is this normal? I don't like inhaling oil so I may put a catch can here if there is no fix for it.

And the headlights. I have restored many headlights, from the outside, never the inside, and these seem to be hazed on the inside. Can you bake them open and do something with the inside? Is it worth it?

Lastly, already got a new radiator coming before these hairline cracks spring a leak;

Thoughts guys? Has it been sprayed?

Re: HCCAFan's 2000 SH

that's pretty close, if not the same as a factory color. but it doesn't look like a bad paint job at all from the pics, i guess in person it looks worse.

cam gears/cut VC/taking off heat shield..... maybe the PO just liked the look of mechanical things?...
only thing i can think of haha, nothing else.

the holes drilled in the IM..... yea uhh... never seen/heard of that done. i guess a fake nitrous setup? hahaha

oil on the intake, def a busted PCV.

yup, you can def bake the headlights to take them apart, but hazy 5G's are very common, so before you take them apart just try wetsanding the outsides and see if that fixes it.

welcome to the site BTW, ur gonna love it, and love your lude even more

Thanks for looking/replying. I forgot to mention, the exhaust gear is retarded about 4 degrees (2 hash marks), if that gives any more clues. The intake cam is zeroed.

Re: HCCAFan's 2000 SH

It looks like he was trying to clean the EGR ports and for some reason did a half ass job and didnt buy the correct parts, and then just put screw's in it.ENG: Cleaning EGR Valve/Ports video the last part of the video shows cleaning the ports. And as Neck said try wet sanding the headlight's first. If not DEPO makes great after market ones.

I think you are right on man. The previous owner told me she just had the EGR ports cleaned. I'm at work so I will check that video later. Thanks. Better news than nitrous but kinda worried about the screws and drilled out runners.

Re: HCCAFan's 2000 SH

Nice, just snuck the video in at work. It seems that they drill in and pull the plugs out which is good but I am still wondering why the person that did the work stuck screws in the holes. Maybe that's what they used to pull them out?

The plugs can be hard to come by as dealers have a hard time finding them since the plugs aren't in their parts catalog. They're in a TSB. That would be my reasoning for explaining why they used screws. But a reputable shop would hopefully know this or at least not use screws like that...

Car looks good man, get a heat shield and remove that pinstripe and you're set IMO. Oh and on the headlights, if you've tried wet-sanding them and they're still foggy, save your self some time and just buy some new depos. I had ones that were hazy and I tried restoring them and it looked to be on the inside. I sold those (as I had unexpectedly scored a free set of depos.) and the guy I sold them to said that even after cracking them open it was a lost cause...And I agree w/ Neck, that looks to be the nordic mist factory color (can't remember the code, its in your door jamb, and we have a sticky on color codes somewhere around here lol.) But yea, the paint doesn't look too bad in the pics.

Goodluck with the lude man, they're fun...and addicting.

Re: HCCAFan's 2000 SH

Thanks for the advice. I probably will ditch the pinstripe though if I ever did get it painted again I would probably get a real pinstripe with the "H" in it. That is one of the problems with the paint. You can literally see cuts in the paint where they cut the pin stripe off with a razor blade. Also, all the panels don't seem to match and it looks like they did not paint some things like the drivers side view or the side skirts. On the hood there is a couple weird things like they held the spray gun in one spot too long and almost made it run. They also just painted over rock chips so it has little painted divets all over it. Looks pretty good from 10 or more feet away though.

thats a honda thing when the panels dont match, its something with the paint when it fades, thats not a ****ty paint job its just normal my car has the same paint ordeal as well with non matching panels because its old and weathered.

Good to know. So if I got it painted again it would still look like that?
