Re: did some header wrap.

careful w/ that stuff. most of the time the header will rust even faster w/ that wrap on cuz it traps moisture underneath it.

mines coming apart. i might suggest those metal hose clamps, the ones you can tighten with a screwdriver.

I would imagine not. You're trying to prevent the heat transfer so you would coat the header with silicon, which is horrible at conducting/transfering heat, and then insulate it. In theory just by coating the header with high-temp silicon it's helping to keep the engine bay cooler and your exhaust flow hotter.

well ya i completely understand the logic behind wrapping your header, heat soak, etc. just didnt know about the silicon spray.. so you spary the header just prior to wrapping it?

Re: did some header wrap.

ok let me break it down. this is what was told to me from an expert
1) soak the wrap and then let it dry some (this is to make it easier to go on, plus it will shrink a bit and tighten up once on the header)
2) wrap header (from top down), and secure ends (like i said i suggest screw type hose clamps)
3) let dry completely. then spray with the silicone sealant. be very generous with this.
4) check for frays or splits that might cause wrap to unravel.
5) install. and be prepared for it to smoke like hell once it warms up. mine smelled like burnt pizza. it will probably smoke pretty bad for about 20-40 mins. thats it. im done.

Re: did some header wrap.

yea i got the invader hood and it was breathin smoke. i was like "what the ****!?" and it stunk. big time. like if you were to cook a pepperoni pizza with exhaust fumes and burn the pizza. thats pretty much what it was like.

oh and important note, cut your pieces a little long, cause when they dry they will shrink. and you can always cut more off. its about 6 inches of wrap per inch of pipe
