Icon6 Project: 3" straight pipe, TurboLude

So I needed a new exhaust, desssperatelyyyyyyy!!! the old WS2 was nearly falling off.

Here's what the old sounded like. Basically no exhaust was coming out my muffler. whoops.

WS2 took an hour to take out:

Everything that was wrong with it:

the STOCK cat was in surprisingly good condition!!!

New Vs Old

I also had a big crack in my manifold that I needed to weld shut cuz i was loosing 3-4psi of BOOTS!!

YOU CAN SEE DAYLIGHT!!!

time for some welddingggggg

new flex pipe and 2.5-3" expansion

closer

yea, does anyone else see the SAME crack forming again!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

^^^ thats the NEW weld, with the manifold, turbo, downpipe, and exhaust bolted on the car, but hasn't even been started up yet. so it can't be due to thermal, it must be a physical load or something. IDK

right now it ends where the jack stand is, cuz the curved part that drops under the rear axle was laying on the ground when i put the wheel and car on the ground.

yummmmmyyyyy

New muffler looks great man, can't wait to hear what it sounds like on the car. The piping on that WS2 was shot to sh*t. Hows the axle back portion of the exhaust?

Nice job welding that crack, how's the boots runnin now?

THATS FUKKKINN LOUD!

While on the topic of moar:

And yeah I am interested in the axle back, what size is the piping? Also, it looks rather rusted, is that something I can fix to look new, or close to new?

Re: Project: 3" straight pipe, TurboLude

its even louder in person. my neighbor 3 houses down (w/ a C5 vette w/ a loud borla exhaust) yelled over to me on first start up "HEYY!!! JUST BECAUSE IT'S LOUD DOESN'T MEAN ITS FAST!!!!" he's always tryna bust my balls.

WS2 piping is 2.33". the muffler can be polished w/ any SS polishing compound.

Re: Project: 3" straight pipe, TurboLude

So Nick, welding your cast iron manifold is kinda tricky. The impuities in the metal the that fact that its so, pourous, I guess you'd call it makes it expand and contract a lot and the impurities form weak spots. Weld a smal section at a time. Like an inch or so. Make sure you grind it down to bare metal. Most of the impurities are in the skin of the metal due to the fact that the molten iron is poured in the the generally sandstone die. Also, between weld tap it with a plastic handled screwdriver or something that will cause a "ping" the vibration will help it not crack. (Don't remember why lol)

just run it all the way out the back of the car with no muffler, so it won't be as loud inside the car but still freakishly loud outside of it!!

and like E said, paint that freakin sway bar, i think we've covered that before!
