5th Gen window trim restoration

Aloha everyone, just thought I'd post up some pics of my renewed window trims on my 5th gen.

When I baught the car they were in a bad state, the drivers side window wouldn't shut properely if opened and the passenger side was completely taped up.

I went to Honda and they priced up the parts to 240 GBP, thats two rubbers and two metal fixings, I decided that was a bit steep and therefore searched eBay and found somebody breaking a 5th gen and baught the parts i wanted for 60 GBP.

When they arrived they did need a little TLC but after a rubdown of oil and a strip + respray of the metal fixings they were ready to go on the car.
I didn't have a tutorial or anything, just a quick skim through the Honda Manual gave me a rough idea of what needs to be taken off and in which order the door trim was built, after that its common sense, However I have since found a D-I-Y of this job on PZ the link to which is here;

http://preludezone.com/showthread.ph...t=window+trims

I hope this helps anyone with rippling trims

This is the passenger side window before.

This is the drivers side before.

Passenger side after refurb, drivers side matches but I didn't get a photo.

Re: 5th Gen window trim restoration

yo dawg is that rubber at the bottom of the glass(the strip on the door, not the one touching the glass)? my 5th gen has this crappy black paint thats chipping like crazy like an older gen honda. Is that stock or did you do that?

The rubber I replaced is the rubber that the window runs inside, and the metal fixing that holds it down[the strip near the join of the door].

Everything else is stock.

On the metal strip?
I think Back to black is made for plastics. Full rub down and a good paintjob, few coats to hide oxidation would be my recomendation.

Re: 5th Gen window trim restoration

DIY would entail instructions for others to follow I would think :)

Is there any trick to getting the metal window trim off other than pulling really hard?

I put a link to it undo the screws and loosen the window runners (you need the window out of the way. Then it should slide up and out, you do have to do a bit of manouvering but I managed it without any force to avoid damaging anything, god knows my paint is bad enough as it is!

Re: 5th Gen window trim restoration

Looks good,

now I have been thinking about not just the trim part between the front and rear side glass but the whole trim around each window, the trim around the headlights and pretty much everywhere there is a gasket or trim piece. I am about to pay gobs of $$$ to get a paint job, not just any paint job the whole car I mean whole car, so I want this thing to look like it came off the showroom floor.

Re: 5th Gen window trim restoration

I'm planning the same after Ive sorted a few mechanical issues, my trims around the windows have been scratched alot so I'll want to change them when I paint the car for the same reasons as you. Let me know how you get on dude and I will vise versa

Re: 5th Gen window trim restoration

My bottom front door trim is chipping off to where u can see rubber and metal n it's bugging me badly. What should I do? I've been sanding it down but the way it's going now, it'll be a 2 week operation at least. Any recommendations?
