Icon7 Lude with LPG autogas conversion + my civic *LOTTA PICS* + Tein installed soon

It's photo time for the Prelude..

Here's the deal:

1997 Honda Prelude 2.0 16v SOHC non-vtec UK model. (This is the lowest spec Lude unfortunately, but its my baby and I love her!) Stock engine with 139BHP (according to Wiki search)

OK so it has had a LPG (Autogas) conversion so I can switch between petrol or gas as fuel while driving.

The car has been lowered by apparently 20mm (not by me so I don't know anything about this). But I have just received my Tein SuperStreet coilovers today which are being installed at the weekend!

^^ Current wheels are 17" don't know what make but I'm looking to upgrade to black MOTEGI FF7s with polished rim sometime in the future.

^^ Damage on right side car door pillar. Anyone know if I can replace the metal strip or do I just get it rubbed down and pushed flat then resprayed??

^^ Rust around right hand side rear arch

^^ Bad rusting around keyhole on trunk

^^ Number plate housing broken by bad potholes in road. BTW Notice the reversing sensors!!!

^^ Reversing sensors in action

^^ More damage to left hand side of rear bumper!

^^ Slight damage around rear left side arch

^^ Scuff mark on front bumper

Engine bay:

^^ Notice something strange??? That's part of the LPG conversion.

^^ Fuel input for LPG

^^ Gas tank in spare wheel space

^^ Red light means running on petrol, flick the switch and light goes green for running on gas.

^^ Surround removed for painting, don't know what colour was thinking a dark grey or maybe silver. Car came without a radio so I bought that Kenwood, It's pretty good. You control your ipod with the radio controls which is handy. The radio colour can be changed to any colour (green in picture) or set to randomly change between colours.

^^ Again removed for painting, not sure what colour to go with. Any ideas???

If anybody has painted parts of their dash please provide pics

^^ Stock interior

pics continued in next post.....

Re: Lude with LPG autogas conversion + my civic *LOTTA PICS* + Tein installed soon

Old car:

^^ old and the new (with cats at both cars)

^^ cat on my Lude!!

^^ It left paw prints, grrrr! The car was only washed.

^^ Got this sticker bought for me. Should I put it in the back window of the Lude?

Future mods:

- Install new projector headlights this weekend.
- Install Tein Superstreet coils this weekend.
- 17" MOTEGI FF7s black with polished lip
- Mugen front bumper
- New rear bumper (haven't looked for one so don't know what type i'd like)
- JDM window visors
- Hood dampers and trunk damper (if I can find the time this summer)
- Full respray. Will probably keep the car black but if the price if right I might go for a blue and leave the roof black. If this is the case carbon fiber bonnet will be on the cards as a future mod. At the moment though it will probably be a full black respray.
- New intake as sometime the pipe will become separated randomly. Anyone else have this problem? Not sure on which intake to buy at the minute.
- If I find a honeycomb grill with the prelude logo cheap enough I'll snap that up

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Any questions? Advice?

Re: Lude with LPG autogas conversion + my civic *LOTTA PICS* + Tein installed soon

nice pics, looks like you've alot of work ahead of you and it's a pity about the rust but i can't wait to see it with the teins and the ff7s

about the strip on the door, i ordered one for the typeS not so long ago and what i got was a stupid sticker that wasn't even the right shape, i went back to the supplier thinking they ordered the right part but we checked it and that's what was listed maybe they just got it wrong for my car, i never cross referenced it with any other 5th gen, so you'll probably have better luck than me but i'm going to respray mine, it should be simple enough

did you ever think about wrapping the surrounds in real carbon fibre? i'm thinking of doing it to a few bits and pieces and just messing with it in general but i think it would look sweet on your car and it seems easy enough!
here's a shop in the UK that does the CF skinning kit and there's a video on the site to show you how it's done

LPG conversion on a Prelude, I'll bet you could drive that thing forever!

Looks like a good base for a project, keep us posted mate.

very nice. so it doesnt get worse, sand the rust and spray it as a temporary fix until you can get it professionally done

Took a few shots of the Tein's before sending them to the garage:

^^ Off Road use only?? I take it that is there for legal reasons??!

^^ Time to rice the Lude out with all those Tein stickers lol... NOT!

^^ Has anyone any suggestions for this?

Well for the longest time I thought Petrol WAS Gas. I just thought you guys used another name for it. But that's pretty cool stuff. I find it funny that whoever had it before has damage to the rear bumper when they had back up sensors =P.

Good stuff bro.

P.S. - It's so weird seeing a 5G without an H22 stuff under the hood.

Re: Lude with LPG autogas conversion + my civic *LOTTA PICS* + Tein installed soon

I would consider a swap in the future but an LPG man told me there are problems with leakage at the valve seats on H22 running a LPG conversion.

IrishLuder:

Good find on the fiberglass kit. I may do that instead of painting the surrounds!!

Booya got my own diversion to google. lol.

Liquefied petroleum gas (also called LPG, GPL, LP Gas, or autogas) is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as a fuel in heating appliances and vehicles, and increasingly replacing chlorofluorocarbons as an aerosol propellant and a refrigerant to reduce damage to the ozone layer.

Re: Lude with LPG autogas conversion + my civic *LOTTA PICS* + Tein installed soon

^^ Taken from your first result:

"When LPG is used to fuel internal combustion engines, it is often referred to as autogas. In some countries, it has been used since the 1940s as an alternative fuel for spark ignition engines. More recently, it has also been used in diesel engines. Its advantage is that it is non-toxic, non-corrosive and free of tetra-ethyl lead or any additives, and has a high octane rating (108 RON). It burns more cleanly than petrol or diesel and is especially free of the particulates from the latter.

LPG as a vehicle fuel has two main disadvantages.

1. it has a lower energy density than either petrol or diesel, so the equivalent fuel consumption is higher, but since many governments impose less tax, it is still usually more cost effective.
2. some designs of internal combustion engine required the lubrication of petrol or diesel with lead or lead substitute, and LPG's lack thereof can damage valves or shorten their life. Engines designed for unleaded fuel, equipped with stellite valve seats, are usually suitable for use with LPG without added upper cylinder lubrication."

On the power note, I have a valve that can be turned manually to alter the gas to air ratio to either have less power and more mileage when using gas, or vice versa.

I keep the gas for my motorway and long distance driving, as I travel up and down to University and that would kill my petrol!! lol
