back in the states with a new toy

i can't believe i've kept this from you guys for so long. only ONE person knows about it and that guy did an awesome job of not telling anyone, which i had no doubt in my mind. so thank you D. so with out further ado. here it is. not fully complete, should be sometime today.

first a few teaser pics
can you tell what it is?

how about now? these should be a good clue.

ok if you haven't figured it out its my new JIC suspension

I purchased it while i was in iraq. wife wasn't to happy but eh, she got over it. i almost died of anticipation actually. i had to wait over a month before i could even see it.
well anyways its going in today i'll have some before, during, and after pics. it will probably look about the same because i already have a modified suspension but it's just not all that great since i blew a shock a while back on some really crazy circumstances. so bye for now. i'm off in a few hours to get started.

So did you get them for the original great price from a while back or sue those people and go buy them elsewhere?

indeed..

so was your previous setup lowering springs or a coil-over setup? if they were just springs you are going to be very excited about the new driving experience..

Re: back in the states with a new toy

hahaha, i remember that E. nope, actually D pointed them out to me on ebay. i wanna say i got them for like 800 bucks. those douche bags back in the day pissed me off to much to even bother with them any further then a meaningless threat.

i actually had the tokico setup prior to this setup. i was so excited while swapping them out i completely forgot to take pics until i was on the last one and it was already installed. but once i got them in, backing out of the hobby shop i could already tell the difference. its to bad it started raining right before finishing up, i would gave them a little test. but just from normal driving i could tell a huge difference. slow turns like in parking lots or from a stop light there is like zero body roll. there is very little dip when i hit the brakes. and the back hardly squats at all when i hit the gas. but the funny thing is, its actually a very comfortable ride. bumps were atrocious with the tokicos comparatively. i installed them right out of the box practically i messed with it a little to see how tight the spring was and they weren't very tight at all. but when i installed them the ride height was REALLY low. the back was tucked and the front, i could barely get one finger between the wheel and the fender. but after a quick adjustment, i got a finger in the back and a finger and a half in the front. i think i'm gonna leave it as it is. it will probably actually even out a bit when i get my old tokicos out of the trunk too.

the beauty about this system is its height adjustable with out messing with the spring adjustment. so you keep your spring rates.

so hear is the pic of that lonely one installed.

and where i was doing this at was on a military installation where they have a hobby shop where you can go work on your cars. and since i don't have a lot of tools i just go there. 12 bucks for 3 hrs of work. not bad. but anyways, i had the hood up while doing the fronts, and everyone kept gawking at my car and asking what i was doing. i changed a lot of peoples minds about imports. one guy said god i ****in hate imports but strangely i found myself slightly aroused from looking at your car. one guy even commented on my header saying thats like the smartest design i've ever seen for a header on an import. he **** himself when i told him it was stock. seriously he said right after that, i gotta go to the bathroom. hahaha. everyone loved my valve cover. no one could believe she was 8, well now 9 years old. you know the typical comments, i thought they stopped making them in the early 2000's what is it an 06 07? but strangely, NONE of the import owners there came any where near my car, cept an audi guy. jealous. i actually can have some respect for domestic lovers now, the ones that can admit when they like an import.

Re: back in the states with a new toy

yep you know me all to well. probably next weekend. i'm not going to low. like with the tokicos i had a 2 finger gap in the back and a about a 2.5 finger gap in the front. now its a 1.5 finger gap in the front and a 1 in the back. i haven't really adjusted it though. i'm gonna mess with it in the next few days so we'll see. i wanna go about a 1.5 and a 1.5. i think it looks way better even or lower in the back as opposed to lower in the front. then the back looks like its sticking up in the air.

Re: back in the states with a new toy

you know D, i haven't really been able to test it out much. around town i've noticed a difference. even at low speeds like in parking lots ive noticed a difference. i can't wait to really try it out.

i know colin, i have been holding out on you guys for a while with pics. its just its taken the back seat in my life right now.

i have some potentially upsetting news though. my wife started to complain the other day saying now that the shocks went out on the car you're gonna need to start replacing things a lot more often now. once hondas start braking they don't stop. i told her she's thinking of fords and chevys and dodges. lol. but she wants me to sell it. i just told her we can't afford another car payment. but anyways. no sooner after she says that, i go to adjust the ride height a bit, and guess what the **** i find. 3 small cracks in the side of the transmission, and fluid is slowly seeping out. i mean very slowly. and an pretty bad oil leak coming from what looks like under the distributor.

on top of that i was in a parking lot, a very small one at that. making some really tight turns, even for a small car such as a prelude, and very slowly at that, and next thing i start to hear is some clunking randomly as i hit the gas and brake. when i get the car home i do some inspecting, i find the driver side cv shaft actually came out of the half shaft a little. and all that stress from turning tore one of the power steering rack boots. i just hope it wasn't related to the drop though. and not to mention i'm closing in on that all important mile mark to change the timing belt. i think she jinxed me.

once i get around to fixing the cv shaft and the torn steering rack boot i'm gonna raise it back up just a tad. maybe a finger width on each. and once i get her fixed up and raised back up a bit, i'll definitely get a whole new photo shoot. maybe work on my night shots.
