Engine Bay Makover Part 1 (pics)

Sup PZ,

So I'm home on break and I have no parts to install as they are all in Dallas, so I decided to make my engine bay look pretty! Check it out, and be prepared for Part 2 (Valve cover baby!)

Thanks, I wish I had a better picture of the spark plug cover. It actually looks a lot better than the pics here. The "Honda" is clearly defined and everything.

I'm waiting for a nice day to take off the valve cover and start the project.

I painted a big area around the top red first and let it dry. Then I took some of those letters you put on office windows and stuff and put them on top of the red paint. From there I just painted the rest of the heat shield black and took a plastic razor and carefully peeled off the lettering and viola!

You know it, glad you noticed I was keeping the black/red theme.

Re: Engine Bay Makover Part 1 (pics)

i have a really cool idea for you Alex...

paint your calipers the same way as the heat shield. i am doing the honda lettering in silver and the entire caliper in red. if you did the caliper black and either honda or prelude in red it would add to the bad assness of your lude. just an idea!

what do you think?

not sure what Alex used but if you are looking to do this also just go to your local auto parts store and get some high heat engine paint.

I know. Was just curious what he used. Brand, gloss type. Wrinkle paint (doesn't look like it though)

Hmm, interesting! That may be something I'd do. Cause I was definitely going to paint the calipers, and I was planning all red. I think I'll do this actually, either all red calipers with black lettering or vice versa.

Dupicolor Engine Enamel in the ford f150 red and gloss black. It's not a wrinkle paint, just a 500 degrees rated one.

On a side note, took it out for a test drive shortly afterwards, and the paint held up fine. It got a little soft, but that's to be expected only an hour after the last coat was put on. I did catch a little smell of paint in the cabin, but that'll be gone once the paint cures.

Plus, that kind of paint (Enamel) has to heat cure, so driving it for a while is an alternative to cooking it in an oven.

Looking good!

I cooked it for 15 mins at 170 in the oven, but I figured the car would do just fine.

Now, hit the engine hoist, and radiator supports with the same gloss black....and it'll tie the whole thing together, after the VC of course.

If you got some extra weight in the form of a heatshield, why not make it look purdy at least? Looks good bro, and very unique.

DON'T PUT IT IN YOUR OVEN TO COOK!!!

unless you make sure ALL of the oil is off of the bottom. I thought mine was clean, but it smoked like a mother.

Re: Engine Bay Makover Part 1 (pics)

Thanks for the heads up. I was plannin on cooking it, but now I think I'll let the engine take care of curing it.

Imma paint the radiator bolts like you said while I'm waiting between coats.

Sounds good, be very careful when you put it back in, the paint is easily scratchable until it heat-cures. I put a nice big slash in mine trying to put the plastic trim peice back on it. Ended up having to redo the whole thing. I can't wait to see this thing!
