So I have this vision for my h22 valve cover, I will be stripping the powder coating off and polishing the aluminum to a shine, and then painting the letters DOHC VTEC with a blue heavy metal flake paint, and painting the sparkplug cover to match the letters. SO I have an extra valve cover that has a couple scratches so I figured I will test my idea on the slightly scrathced valve cover to see if I like it. ANd if I do I will do it to the 2001 (flawless) valve cover I have on now...
It goes like this...

My dad is an airplane mechanic and got me some Industrial strength stripper from his work.

Large paint brush and plastic container

Stock 97 jdm h22 valve cover

Apply paste like stripper all over with paint brush

Hose off thoroughly and dry very well!!

Now the fun part =P I used this and a 220 grit...

sanding brought it to a nice shine, but once I put the mothers on it that baby shined just how I wanted it!!!

Like I said this is the "test" valve cover. I am going to be painting the letters on the other cover to match the spark plug cover, just wanted to giv you the idea...

I know the paint job on the SP cover sux I didnt clean it with alcohol b4 and it was getting dark and just wanted something to show you guys, I am going to be doing the other cover and repainting the SP cover tomarrow, look for progress pics!!!

PS the reason/s I didnt paint the letters on this cover is 1.)I am maybe gonna sell this cover, and 2.) it will take a good bit MORE time to tape off those letters and make it look how I want it (= enjoy the pics!

Ya it took me about 3 hours...I intend on spending a little more time sanding the other valve cover, as the more you sand the better the shine...

Yeah the other one will look great. Also, check this out if you really want that bitch to shine: http://www.poleringsguide.se/english/

If you do that ^^^, every time you open your hood you'll get blinded. The SP cover would look better if you sprayed instead of brushed. Spray>Brush any day.

Either way, lookin' good bro.

Re: Operation Valve cover!!! (lots O pix!!!)

I think I'm gonna get me another valve cover and do this when I get some extra time this Spring. Shined VC and paint the SP cover black. I wander if you can get the stripper publicly or if it's one of those gay things that you can only get for companies and ish.

its suprisingly not hard at all..and quite fun once you get started. But without that stripper i bet it wouldnt be that fun or easy!

is there different paper for when you wet sand? Or is it just adding water?

Just the word of the wise, I have a little experience polishing aluminum myself my buddy and I out of Fayetteville, NC polised alot of crotch rockets. This stuff was so good you would have thought it was chrome.

Okay you need to do just a bit better on the sanding job w/ like a 400 to 600 grit then work your way up to 1000 and wet sand it. Souldn't be any swirling marks (small scratches) now you need a bench grinder w/ a huge 8 inch cotton wheel and you'll need some polishing rouge I recommend brown, green, and white.

Use the brown first it cuts deeper into the aluminum then clean your wheel (cotton) then do the green. Once you feel good about it (it will start looking nice at this point) Your not done yet clean the wheel again (cotton) and hit it with the white man that thing will look like chrome. You will be able to see your reflection like your looking in a mirror.

Save your money that stuff at Auto Zone Aircraft Paint Remover (aresol can) its on the can, does the same thing. Your pictures look exactly like mine did when I stripped mine to paint it blue.

Also if you want yours looking like chrome I could probably still do that kind of work and I already have the polising rouge, just need a bench grinder. It is labor intensive and a very messy job.

Re: Operation Valve cover!!! (lots O pix!!!)

I dont have a bench grinder, so IM going to use my rotory tool and a polishing wheel...I cant afford to get the three color polish I just have mothers mag polish...ANd I intend on putting in a lot more sanding in on the other cover, just didnt wantt o waste time on the tester...The person I sell it too will probably wish to paint it so I left it as is...

You're forgiven then. I *heart* Madden tournaments.

Do you think the valve cover is salvageable? I might buy it. Unless it's got huge nicks and dings and scratches that can't be removed.

Re: Operation Valve cover!!! (lots O pix!!!)

There is only the two scrathces that you can see in the pic..they could be removed with a file. Some very minor knicks but they also can be removed with some wet sanding. Other than that is is in perfect condition...
