[ADL] Small Car Sunday 2008

Well, Small Car Sunday 2008 has been run and won. A bit of a new format this year kept numbers down, but the change of venue was a change for the better. Here are the first of the pics from the day.

One of the girls from work brought her old school 626 out of hiding

Meaning the rear spoiler? I got it nearly 3 years ago, when I got the rest of the kit. But it was only panted last week and fitted about 9 hours before the show.

Anyway, as usual, more pics

This rode past when I went for lunch

This RPS13 won Second outright. They were robbed

I hate 180SXs, but the fact that I stopped and looked at and took a bunch of pics gives this something extra

Colin, quick question...

...are Sil-Eighties that rare? do you see the real, sil-eighties roaming the streets of Australia or were they strictly for Japan only? I would imagine they would frequent those shows...

Re: [ADL] Small Car Sunday 2008

Genuine Sil-Eighties are rare as rocking horse isht. They were a Japan only deal, and I think only 800 or so were made. But S13 silvia front panels bolt straight up as the 180/240SX and Silvia are practically the same car. You can also buy bolt on kits to install S14 or S15 headlights onto the RPS13 car, commonly called a Strawberry conversion.

Nissan didn't sell skywhines or silvias here at all (except for about 100 R32 GTRs that were sold here so they could race in the touring car championship, but I digress) but our import laws state that if the car wasn't sold here then as long as it meets certain requirements then they can be imported in low volumes. Or if they're manufactured before 1990 (I think) just about anything can be brought in.

The previous owner had a tow bar on the car, and rather than remove the OEM rear lip, they just cut it. When they sold the car, they just plastic welded the bit they cut out back into place. Well spotted on both accounts!

It's a Noble M12.

Quote:
The race-bred Noble M12, which has rocked the British market with its Porsche Turbo-bashing performance and dynamics, is now available in Australia.

Since the car’s original UK launch in 2000, the M12 has evolved considerably, spawning three different models to date. The current range-topper – the Noble 3.0 litre V6 twin turbocharged 262kW M12 GTO-3R – will be the version sold in Australia.

This car has become a firm favourite with the British press, who have now started to use the Noble as a benchmark for scintillating performance and awesome dynamics, at a sensible price.

All Nobles are hand-built to order and will hold a deep appeal for those drivers who crave exclusivity at a reasonable price, without sacrificing the build quality and durability associated with more established sports car manufacturers.

It also promises to startle its more established rivals with its heady mix of blistering performance and secure handling. Priced at $195,000, the Noble has unrivalled performance per dollar, going head to head with cars like the Porsche 911, Maserati GT and BMW M3 CSL.

Michel De Vriendt, Managing Director of Motor Group Australia and Importer for Noble said “With its combination of outstanding performance, style and everyday drivability; we are confident it will carve its own niche in the upper sports car market. Its appeal is to those drivers who not only want something that is unique, but can deliver performance that is unquestionably without peer. The Noble represents the fastest road registerable vehicle currently available in Australia.”

The GTO-3R is best summed up with the words of Lee Noble, the M12’s designer: “I always wanted to design a car that was civilised and spacious, rode well, and that anyone could drive fast without feeling intimidated. The Noble M12 GTO-3R represents the pinnacle of that ideal.”
