finally got the entire 5 lug conversion done. washed her up, looked too fine---

I finally got the 15mm spacers in with new studs and everything. 4 wheel alignment done, dropped it another inch, got her washed, and here she sits today.

I put the accord front lip on already and i'm halfway done with the rear lip, i got too tired to finish it up last night so I'll probably finish it up tonight---

I have the accord coupe sides as well but i'm not sure i'm willing to do all the work to modify those to put them on too.

what do you guys think???

thanks, and man you have no idea. so many times i was stuck cuz i didn't know what I was doing etc... thought I'd never finish!

what started out as a small project ended up being so much more.

So for anyone interested in what they're looking at or what the project was, here we go:
---5 lug conversion using 98 Prelude Front Knuckles/Hubs and Rear Hubs

--- beacuse I didn't know what I was doing when removing when removing the knuckles from the ball joints- I ended up replacing both front upper control arms with new ball joints, and the lower outer front tie rods with new ball joints, and the lower ball joints on the front and the rear driver side (YES REAR LOWER BALL JOINTS ARE THE SAME (OR CLOSE ENOUGH) TO THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINTS!!!)

---Acura Legend Type II Calipers, With Brembo Blank Legend Rotors, and Axxxis Pads Up front.

---Brand new OE Brand Rotors and Axxxis Pads in the Rear.

---Ground Control Coilovers with Tokico Illumina 5 way Adjustable Shocks

---S2000 OEM AP2 V1 Wheels, all 4 are front wheels/tires. They required spacers to get the front ones on correctly.

---So went with H&R 15mm Spacers which include all brand new Extended Studs.

---Also Have an Accord OEM front lip, and Rear Lip. (pics only show half the rear lip beacuse I haven't finished, but will do so tonight)
To come in the near future (things I already have, just need to be done):

---Projector 'ebay' 1 piece, blacked out, jdm style head lights, as soon as mizlude sends em' to me with Plug and Play Ebay Xenons.

---OEM Fog Lights with Nokya H3 Yellow 2500k Bulbs

---5th Gen Glass moon roof (mine is sitting in my garage for months now I need to put it in)

---Power Folding JDM Mirrors

---94-96 Center Console, including brand new ebrake shifter cables and everything.

Plans for the future (Things I dont already have but are on my short list):
--- Painting the entire car Royal Blue Pearl (may consider doing this myself ;) yikes!!! Including shaving the antenna and replacing it with some kind of hidden but still good quality antenna. (Perhaps bmw style with a fin on the roof???)

--- I want to get he entire interior reappolstered. Everything the eye can see I want re wrapped in black leather. All the consoles, doors, seats, headliner, dash, everything but the carpet.

---mizlude has my 5spd on the way that i'm going to have rebuilt and have the car converted once I can figure out how to keep cruise control.

---H22a w/turbo some day after the h23 dies on me.

---a nice LED custom tail light setup, and front turn signal setup.

---Figure out a way to get a nice oem honda 3 spoke steering wheel either from an S2000 or NSX to work while keeping the airbag.

--- make a nice custom mount for my laptop which will connect to my dual din 7" stereo for movies/music/interet/etc... --- I have no passenger airbag, so i'm gonna look into fabricating some kinda tray that will hold the laptop there.

---I want to get the EL Guages but I dont wanna hack up my harness. so I dont know how hard it is to route and plug in the factory harness if one can be obtained, but thats on my list.

Well as some of you know, when you use 5th gen front knuckles on the 4th gen axle, its too long. As a result you need to put a few washers under the axle nut to make sure that the hub sits flush onto the axle.

Well doing this, with really high offset s2000 wheels, means that the axle nut actually sticks through the wheel's center (where the "H" cap goes) about 7mm or so. This makes it impossible to put those H caps on.

So after considering grinding down the axle a little, and using washers or something I came across spacers.

Ebay ones were tempting as they were cheap. but as I began to read I heard that spacers aren't exactly the safest thing in the world to use. They crack, etc...

The bigger the spacer, the bigger the need for longer wheel studs too. up to 5mm would be safe, but 5mm wouldn't correct my problem. So I decided that if I'm going to have to use spacers and if I'm going to have to replace the studs with extended ones anyway, may as well just go ahead and get spacers big enough to push the wheels to the fender.

So i did some calculations and came up with 15mm. Being that its so big I didn't want to go with cheap ebay ones. My research landed me on the H&R brand. supposedly extremely popular in europe and used on all of the high end cars over there. Everyone recommends them in terms of safety against cracking and bending over time. I think i even read some where that Porsche sells them in thier dealerships.

I also went with these for two reasons. 1. they are hub centric, not just a plate with some holes. What I've read is that when you use extended studs it puts too much pressure on the studs. Studs aren't designed for that, the verticle weight of the wheel is supposed to be on the hub while the horrizontal play is supposed to be taken care of by the studs. So getting something hub centric was essential.

2. Like i said, the need for extended studs are huge when going longer than 5mm. There simply isn't enough tread for the lug nuts to safely grab onto. for the more expensive price of the H&Rs, at least they come with longer studs. Not rediculiously long studs, just studs longer than oem, by the same width of the spacers. So if you get 25mm spacers, the studs they supply will be 25mm longer than oem, if you get 10mm spacers, the studs are 10mm longer than OEM. etc...

This is good beacuse if you go with ARP or just generically longer studs, you may have to go and buy open ended lug nuts. with these, you can safely use your oem lug nuts since its essentially the same length it would have been without the spacers (hope that made sense)

I already went and bought a set of lug nuts beacuse my old OEM ones were rusty and they I only had 4 per wheel when I needed 5. So I picked up a set of em' from discount auto parts with locks.

The H&Rs aren't cheap, about 115 per pair (2 pairs needed for the car) but I dont do things unless I do it right. so I just pulled the trigger and said better be safe than sorry.

The H&R's being hub centric spacers, not generic, means they were made specifically for the prelude fitment they were 64mm, the prelude though is 64.1 so i had to force them in with the pressure of the lug nuts but they went in nice and flush with the hub, and nice and tight too.

The s2000 wheels have a 70.1mm center bore. Since thats such a big difference from 64 and recallling the information that the hub really is whats supposed to hold the weight of the wheel, especially since in this case its sticking out so much farther, I decided to get hub centric rings from www.justforwheels.com--- They're local to south florida and really helped me out getting it here quickly.

So all said and done, the H&R 15mm spacers were no simple decisions, there were very real concerns and considerations were used in choosing them and deciding to drop nearly 5x the cost on them vs the Ebay brands. Whether or not they're really an issue with my setup in the long term I'm not sure, or whether or not the ebay ones are ultimately safe enough remains to be seen. But like i said, this is my DD I put a lotta mileage on it, my g/f uses it all the time and so I need to make sure it was 100% safe. -- I'd never be able to live with myself if something happened to her beacuse I decided to cut corners on cheaper parts.

Sorry for the long explanation on that one, just that when I was looking into spacers i didn't get much information anywhere. I had to piece **** together from various threads and opinions across 5 different forums, so hopefully you, and anyone else searching will get some use outta this outlook on spacers in the future.

What a huge undertaking.

Yea man it was a lotta work, I really doubted my abilities. First time I've ever gotten this deep into a project and i'm still a little worried driving it around scared that I missed something here or there thats gonna send my wheels flying off my car at 70mph on the turnpike one day.

But I checked, and double checked, and tripple checked everything that I did. So it should be okay.

I also asked the guys at the shop that re-bled my brakes for me and did my alignment to just do a quick safey check on it all to make sure I got it right.

Last night after my alignment, I got home and there was this horrible creek coming from the front end, like a door that was badly in need of some grease. only when you turned the wheel left and right about a half an inch from the center.

I figured it could be something from the algnment not done right since it wasn't making that sound before and I'd take it back for them to look at it today.

Well I drove to the shop this morning and the sound is gone, so id idn't bother taking it back beacuse I can't explain what the sound was and ask them to look for it if they can't hear it.

But i know a few guys at the shop and I got a 3 year warranty on the alignment if the sound pops back up they'll take care of it.

Other than that, the whole thing is smooth, no vibrations no nothin. sound as a rock. looks great too.

Thanks bill! I'm sorry I couldn't get those knuckles off of you. Did you ever get them back? With my car looking as good as it does (and the response from this thread) I'm sure you wont have any trouble selling them to another member willing to do a 5 lug conversion.

Read above aobut whats next, but i'm really seriosuly considering painting this thing myself if i can find a compressor that will suit my needs and will be comptable with my home.

Thanks for the compliments tho!

Possibly lol but not to me... The car was like that when I got it. The car has a horrible paint job on it right now. it doesn't look bad but the work was very basic and ****ty.

Plus I hate the color, so I always knew when I bought it that I'd be painting it some day. and when that time came, I'd fix the fender and the few dents it has.

I've decided on Pacific Blue Pearl. Now I just gotta figure out if I'm gonna paint it myself or get a shop to do it for me.
