This timing belt job is not for beginers. The H22 has timing belt balancers that are hard to get back in time with the engine. If you are a beginer I would not sugest doing this on your own.

Also be sure to always tq specified engine bolts to tq specs.

Timing Belt removal.
1. Remove the splash shield

2. Disconnect the connector, then remove the cruise control actuator (if equiped)

3. Remove the mounting bolts, nuts and belt from the power steering pump

4. Disconnect the alternator terminal and the connector then remove the engine wire harness from the body side
5. Loosen the alternator mounting bolt, nut and the adjusting nut, then remove the alternator belt.

6. Remove the cylender head cover, middle cover and side engine mount.

7. Remove the dipstick and pipe

8. Remove the crankshaft bolt and the pulley. Remove the two rear bolts from the center beam to allow the engine to drop down and give clearance to remove the lower cover.
9. Remove the adjuster rubber seal. Do not loosen the adjusting nut.
10. Remove the lower cover
11. Loosen the adjusting nut. Push on the pulley to remove tension from the timing balancer belt, then tighten the adjusting nut.

12. Remove the timing balancer belt.
13. Remove the timing belt and auto-tensioner

Installing Timing Belt.
1. Install the timing belt in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the timing belt, position the crankshaft and camshaft pulley at TDC.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P9.jpg
2. Hold the auto-tensioner with the maintenace bolt pointing up. Loosen and remove the maintenace bolt.
Hanle the tensioner carefully so no oil inside spills or leaks. Refil if any spills or leaks.
3. Clamp the boss of the auto-tensioner in a vise use pieces of wood or a cloth to protect the boss.
Do not grip the housing of the tensioner
4.Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the maintenace hole. Get something to hold the bottom of the tensioner while turning the screwdriver clock wise to compress the bottom.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P10.jpg
5. Remove the screwdriver and reinstall the maintenace bolt.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P11.jpg
6. Make sure no oil is leaking around the maintenace bolt. Install the auto tensioner on the engine.'
Make sure the stopper stays in place that you put in to hold the bottom pin.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P12.jpg
7. Remove the stopper you used.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P13.jpg
8. Make sure the crankshaft is positioned with the No. 1 piston at TDC.
9. Align the groove on the front balancer shaft pulley with the pointer on the oil pump housing as shown.
10.Align the rear balancer shaft pulley by using a 6x100mm bolt as a alignment tool. Insert the bolt into the maintenacne hold about 3/4 the length of the bolt.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P14.jpg
11. Loosen the adjusting nut and verify that the timing balancer belt adjuster moves freely
12. Install the timing balancer belt. Remove the 6x100mm bolt from the rear balancer shaft.
13. Turn the crankshaft pulley about one turn, then tighten the adjusting nut to the specified tq.
Both belt adjusters are spring loaded to properly tension the eblts. Do not add any extrea pressure to the pulleys or tensioners while adjusting.
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h298/JDMITRCinci/h22%20picture%20tech/P15.jpg
14. Install the lower cover
15. Install a rubber seal around the adjusting nut. Do not loosen the nut.
16. Install the middle cover and the crankshaft pulley.
17. Coat the threads and seating face of the pully bolt with engine oil. Install and tighten to spec tq. of 250n.m or 181 lb-ft

Lol if you have done a b series then it will be alot easier. Only hard part about it is the balancer shaft. If they are 1 tooth off your engine will vibrate like crazzy. I remember doing it for the first time in school with the engine out of the car and I wanted to shoot myself.

Hahaha, I wanna learn how to build an engine (any engine) from the ground up, but I don't think that will happen any time soon.

good job on the write-up, i guess....
considering all you did was print-screen and paste the pages of the free online manual.

and i'm gonna hafta say the hardest part is hands-down the crank pulley bolt, especially if you don't have either the crank pulley holder, or a 6' steel pipe, which not alotta people have.
lining everything up is no problem, everything has a marker or a pointer.

Actually I rewrote our Honda manule from work. Thanks though. Its easier for alot of people who dont know how to do things when their are pictures. So they dont screw it up

This thread got me to preludezone. Did this with a mechanic here and I looked this up before doing it. Very clear on what to do. Wouldn't have done it without expert help tho. Or it would have taken 10 hours.

don't forget to replace that auto tensioner with a manual tensioner (from h23).

yeah, don't use the auto tensioner, get a manual tensioner from an h23 when you do it... your valves might thank you one day, if that thing lets go..

Crank pulley bolt is easy if you have air tools, what im unclear on is aligning the rear balancer shaft pulley how do i know if it is correctly aligned
