I was reading in a magazine about a guy wanting to turbo an automatic and the editor said it was a waist of time and i was wondering if a turbocharger would work with tiptronic or not? thanks

Sure why not? A turbo has nothing to do with your transmission.

yes it will work and you can do it but the reason being that it would be a waste of time is b.c you will be replacing your tranny very soon cuz honda autos are not the best

I gave up the turbo dream after finding out the auto tranny cant handle much more than 200hp. Its bolt ons and tune for as close to that breaking point as possible for me now.

are tranny swaps hard to do?

Not hard, just time consuming. Have a search around, Drew has a thread somewhere detailing all that is required to swap a 5-spd into a fifth gen.

is there a certain part on the tranny that fails or just the whole thing

I want to state something a bit odd.
Theres more than one automatic transmission in the preludes throughout the years.
The 97+ transmissions are the problematic ones. The often referred to SS autoslush box. Its the transmission notorious for failing and not being to hold power either.
There are plenty of Auto trannies from the older preludes running strong to this day. I have one with 260k miles(94 Si) on it original and running strong! I have seen 350whp on the same aged auto tranny running down the road. They arent all bad. The 3rd gen trannies are just as good too.
edit: The whole point of my informing you of this is to let you know there is another auto option for you boosted or not. H22 trannies from a 4th gen will work, you just need the auto ECU to go along with it.

Agreed. I've read stories of huge power builds running on practically standard H22 auto gearboxes.
However the fifth gen auto was the only one available with a tiptronic option, and since the thread title was "turbo and tiptronic" talking about any others would be superflous.
