Since its spring time and i got a new car its time to do a lil modding and first i went to have a nice system. Most of the time i just buy what will fit or is on sale b/c its used. Right now i have a 15" audiopipe its the blue face type and i think its about a 1200 watt. Should i just get another one like it or just sell it and get 2 12" same power. From what i heard the bigger 15 will hit header then a same powered 12 but the 12 has a quicker response. So what are the pros and cons for both 15" and 12" sups and should i keep what i got or just start from scratch. Hears what i got now.

go with 12"s. 15s are over rated... i have 1 12 and with the set up that i have now it hits harder than my buddys truck that has 2 15s in it, but mainly it depends on what kind of sound you want, and what kind of box you're planning on using for example are you going to be running them in a vented, bandpass, or seal box, or are you going to run them free air? and do you want sound quality or sheer loudness, then when you decide on what speakers you have to get an amp that complements them

I think im going to go with a ported box it what i have had b/4 and now and i like them. I would go more to quality over quantity. The sup i have now is about 1200 max i think so about 600-800 rms so if i got another one it be about a total of 1200-1600 watt rms from both so i know it will be pent loud and that about in the range i want. Then good a good amp with has a lil bit more power then i need so i don't have to run it as high and should keep the life of the amp longer. O and def a cap.

stick with a class D amp, yes they're more exspensive but much more worth it and much more durable, they don't over heat when they're running at low ohms

You have to answer this one yourself.

I have heard 15's sound like mud and Ive heard 15s hit hard enough to break your neck (not literally). The set up has much more to do with the sound than the woofers themselves. Particularly size difference. Your 15 is going to move more air than a 12. Period. This can mean louder on deep notes or "hit harder" with average music. Generally 15s have a heavier cone so you dont get the snap you would with say a 10 of similar series or model. More displacement is more output. Im not a big fan of the Audiopipe stuff but hey you already have it. Run it. Do the sub you have or add another and put some serious power to it. Keep in mind you wattages are if lightning strikes ratings. Realistically take a Rockford T500-1 with a cap slap it on a ported box with the sub you have and rail on it at 2 ohms all day long. It will be plenty loud.

Ill take the sup out of the box tomorrow to get the info on what it is and all. I got it about 2 years ago and can remember it now. I think tho if i can sell my 15 and get 2 12s for about the same amount of $$$ as i would just getting another 15 ill do that.

I took out my sup today and got a lil info. It is a 15" 2,000 W txx-ap15b1. My guess would be its about 1,000 rms. Also i took the measurements of the box. The box is 21"long X 16 1/2" tall X 18 deer. The port is 2" long X 15" tall by 15 1/2" deer. Just a few questions 1 Would the rms be about 1,000 watts or less? 2. Is my box a good size for the sup? Hear is a MS paint of my box.

Also it has dule voice coils Only one of with is hooked up. should a hook up the other and what is the best way to hook the 2nd one up.

What sort of amp do you have? Whether or not you can run the second voice coil will depend on what the Ohm rating is on your amplifier.

Does the driver have a wattage stamped on it anywhere? 1000WRMS sounds about right, but then again, it could be significantly higher or lower.

Right now the amp i have is just a sony explode 1000w class d mosfet 1 channel amp XM-3001sxd thats what is says on the top of it the sup is a audiopipe 15" 2,000 W txx-ap15b1 . My guess is that the amp is about 500w rsm and the sup is about 1000 rms. so i dont think i need the 2nd voice coil. I think im just going to get a good amp one that will run the sup i have now really good but if i ever did get a nother 15 could run them both. Maybe a 2400w calls D amp will that be over kill or a bout right to.

If your going for quality over quantity, then here is my 2 cents: go with the 12's, they will hit cleaner then the 15's, the good thing about the 15's is that (depending on woofer) they are a little sturdier and built up more. But if you want quality do NOT port that box. Prting your box creates more sound which gives more to the quantity aspect, rather then having a closed box, which will make the woofers hit cleaner, and in most cases, sound just as hard as a ported box. I had 2 12" Alpine Type-X woofers powered by a 2000 Watt Rockford Fosgate amp in my old integra and i actually broke the rear window from shear sound at a show and they were in a closed box, but the qaulity was unbeatable, it was some of the cleanest hits i have ever heard besides the Diamond Audio D9 woofers (best woofers ever in my opinon, they are freakin stellar)
