I just drove an 85 from Avon Park, Fl. to Dallas, TX. Friend of the family gave it to me. 55K original miles with a top end rebuild at 35K miles. Garage kept. Grey and beautiful.
All the vacuum hoses are giving me the creeps and I'd really like to thin them out some. On my old Toyota, I just took them out, and dropped a Weber in. I don't think I'm going to be able to do that with this. Any thoughts on how to get down to just carbs and the essentials??

Would it be worth the conversion to PGMFI? Though I've seen 2g engine bays, would probably be too hard IMO.

arent weber carbs illegal for road use.. i remember a friend of mine had a peugot 206 gti with some sort of transplanted engine with twin 48 weber carbs.. it sounded like rockets going off..

Webers aren't made for the a18/a20 engines. . .you have to have a manifold made for them to work on our cars. Yeah they're not street legal either.

so if i have an a18 what weber carbs would i buy and where from and who would be able to make an intake for them as in what kind of shop

depends on what you want, most people go with the nice 45 DCOEs, they give you the most power. . .

And uh i guess these were from awhile back, i didn't do this little thing up.

Should i go with DCOE 40's or DCOE 45's?
-I sugest going with the DCOE 45's. The 40's can only go up to a 36mm choke and lack the expandability you need if you decide to go any further with your motor. The 45's will work fine on your stock motor if you jet them right. If your plans are mild, then 40's are fine with just basic bolt ons like headers and performance cam. I went with 40's but now wish that i had the 45's because my DCOE 40's are almost maxed out and will be a bottle neck later on when i build up my old motor.

What kind of power gain with the DCOE's?
-You should see 10%-20% gain on a stock motor depending on your carb setup. If you have head work and a cam, those gains will be amplified. A mild build with webers, cam, headers should get you in the 140hp range. With some head work 150-170 depending on how far you go. Then if you get the itch, go for a built 2.0l bottom end, lighten the fly and say hello to 200hp!!!

Here are some questions that i answered earlier

Q:i'm just scared of the vacuum hoses.. if i knew which things i could get rid of and which ones i needed, i wouldn't be scared.. but i dont know how to go about the situation

A:Well, all of the vacume hoses come out allong with that black box that they all go to and the charcoal canester. Once the new carbs are in, all you need to hook up vacume wise is the vac advance on the distributer and the vacume line that runs the heater controlls. If you look under the hood of your car, the heater vac line goes into the fire wall and has a one way vacume pot on it. Its the only line going into the firewall so it is easy to spot. Once that is all out your engine bay looks so clean!!!!! When i removed my stock setup, i left everyting assembled (vac lines, carbs, manifold, controll box, canister). I just removed the bolts from the manifold and yanked it all at once. This makes it waaaaaay easier if you ever want to return to stock, just lable any loose ends.

Q:I just need something to make me comfortable doing it! She is after all my daily driver... Appreciate your help!

A:These carbs are realy easy to tune, i can help you with the jet settings if you go ahead with it. The lude is also my daily driver and i have no issues with city driving. The only thing i really noticed was the low RPM bog but you get usedto that after a while. Besides, the added power is worth it!!!!

Q: Do I need to know a horrible amount about carbs before I do this?

A:If you can use a screwdriver and a wrench, you can install and tune these carbs

Also PM Judge about the intake manifold, he had 5 layin around and was sellin them, not sure everyone bought them.

Another route you can go is motorcycle carbs.

Some 2g's came with PGMFI. At least the 2 I've seen at the junkyard have it lol

It's way too much effort to convert. I'd just buy an Si as they come with that nice power windows and interior! Mm and the different trim bumpers and ya. haha I need to drive one. . .i bet they're fun. I need to up my Si knowledge as well, bleh.

i was looking at the si's i agree they do have a lot of luxury esp for the year
