View Full Version : Mono Sub Wire? Switch to Antenna? Amp Remote?

Well I'm in the middle of some wiring in my garage. 30degree weather and 3 inches of snow. It's exciting...

1. But I ran across a couple questions. I'm digging behind my CD player about to plug in my subwoofer RCA wires. But its just ONE blue end. And on my CD player it says 'Blue-Subwoofer(MONO)'
Does that mean it only needs one wire? the closest wire to it is gray and is labeled CENTER.

2. My amp remote wire is blue and white, can i wire that to a switch and then to my amp?

3. Number 2 brought along this idea, Instead disabling your antenna on your prelude, I have a blue wire labeled on the cd player 'Blue-Power Antenna' and it goes from the cd player into the harness. Could I cut this wire and run both ends of it to a switch so I could connect and disconnect the circuit for the antenna?

Thanks, probably more questions on the way.

Ok i found out i had to plug the RCAs into the 'rear surround' wires

i plan to do the amp switch next week

and the antenna idea sucks

u can get a splitter and plug ur rcas into the subwoofer output that way u can control ur sub level from ur headunit..the rear surround will work too but then u cant control ur sub level from the headunit..if u want u can just plug one rca into the subwoofer output it will work but i recoomend a splitter (two females to one male)..u can run a switch on the remote wire if u want just run one side in line with remote wire the other to ground..then u can manually cut the amp on and off other wise it will turn on and off with the headunit..u can also run a switch for the antenna if u want but i dont see the point in that..

the antenna idea doesnt suck what if your listening to a cd you dont need the antenna up....what if you want to listen to a cd while going through the car wash and you dont want it to break off.

the only reason i wanted to control the antenna was because when it would get real cold it would freeze in places and the antenna motor made all kinds of obnoxious noises trying to raise it.

thats a good enough reason for me lol id say hook it up to a switch but its up to you

the solid blue antenna power wired is SUPPOSED to only apply voltage when the head unit is on the tuner source. when you switch to CD or AUX it SHOULD make the antenna go down until you cycle back through to the tuner. Unfortunately, many cars' adaptor harness' (including hondas) jump the amp turn-on and antenna power (blue/white & solid blue) together for "easier installation" and "simplified troubleshooting" for those 2 circuits. It depends on the radio and the way it is wired up though.

but yea, agreed, it is a good idea to add a switch anytime you need one.

ooo i didnt know that, with my head unit the antenna doesnt go up at all

well the rear surround worked but it operated with the rear speakers and i couldnt control the subwoofer itself. and taking out my cd player for the third time, i simply switch which rca end i plugged in and it worked. I also bridged my subs and it sounds a lot louder, but i don't understand the concept of how it works

On the amp you might be able to just run one RCA if it has the ability to sum the Rgiht and left channels together only requiring one input. This is a feature on many mono amps but not all.

It looks like you got it going already. So this really is just an FYI.
