Notice how the power adapter has a red light inside? Anyone know how to do it?

Dude, I know you are excitable, but wait longer than 16 minutes to bump something... especially in the middle of the day when people are (supposed to be) working. =P

But any ideas?

kinda looks like an S2K engine start button to me

mcimo
02-25-2008, 11:53 AM
Think so? Thats actually kinda cool if it is.

The reason I want to do it is because all my neons are connected to a 4 way adapter, and its plugged in to the power source. The plug is transparent so if i found out how to make the power source light up, the plug would light up too.

or you could just take the riceyness down a notch and hardwire everything so you don't see the wires.

mcimo
02-25-2008, 01:08 PM
Also very true...

As a matter of fact I was just thinking about that on the way up to school.
What kind of switch would I need to get? Right now I've got two neons connected, and ive got an led pod that I want to hook up.

mcimo
02-25-2008, 02:15 PM
Also wheres a good spot for the switch?

ya u need to just wire them up having the splic block looks like crap

go to auto zone and look wear the fuses and all that stuff are you will see a crap load of them they are pretty mush the same thing just look diff and if all u got is neons a small one will be fine...splice in to the back of ur cig lighter 12v wire run that to the switch and then to ur + on ur neons then the ground back to ur cig lighter ..IMO ditch the neons and get leds less power and brighter if u get the right ones i had leds in my trunk so light up my speaker box and even some on the roof of the back seat for a lil bit but took them out

mcimo
02-25-2008, 02:22 PM
The reason I got neons is because I like the look of the smooth light since they're in plain sight, instead of a bunch of little bulbs. Plus they're cheaper

But where do you have your switch?

one was 4 the leds and one was for amp so i could cut it off if i wanted to listen to the radio with the car off and not kill my battery

that is an s2k start button. a guy we rolled with at the varsity meet a couple weeks ago had one on his lude. i think a guy one pp sells them he said. the only thing i didnt like (he didnt either but it looks cool) is that it wouldn't always start. it would just turn over the engine and not fire.

twokexlv6coupe

whats a SPST switch?

any basic rocker/push button switch with 2 (or 3, if the switch is illuminated) leads off the back should work.

mcimo
02-25-2008, 05:02 PM
Single pole, single throw. Just a basic on off switch. I just wanted to make sure, cuz im going out to get one right now. Thanks guys!

u can get them off ebay or strait from the honda dealer. they are not expensive.

yes a SPST tones to chose from get one u like i got the jet fighter ones b/c i i liked then in not to good at wright ups b/c i cant spell and when i type a lot it gets confusing and ppl have to decipher it...now how many neon tubes you have u might u might need to have find another 12v if u have a few of them

mcimo
02-25-2008, 06:28 PM
So i got the switch. Its like yours yogi, except the tip of the actual toggle has a built in led. Plus the flip cover is transparent red.

Oh yeah just one big neon, a mini neon, and an led pod.

As far as ground, do I connect it to the cars bare metal, or is there a cable?

twokexlv6coupe
02-25-2008, 06:36 PM
bare metal

mcimo
02-25-2008, 06:39 PM
Thanks thats what I thought ;)

As a matter of fact that pushbutton start looks kinda cool, I kinda wanna do it now ;)

Would the fact that I have a security system be an issue?
It features one of those things that kills the ignition if someone tries to break in to the car.

i think the wire the runs to the center on the cig. lighter is the + one. first if u got them wear u want them good if not put them wear u want to make sure u want them thear. 2nd run the wires to behind the radio and plez take time to hide the wires no pint in doing this if u dont it will look like crap. cut the wires at the end wear u would use that thing to plug it in to the cig lighter. splice all the (+) together and all the (-) together.. splice a wire into the 12v on the lighter. run that wire to the switch like it says on paper or back of the box the switch came in. o nthe other end of the switch hook up the (+) wire for the neons mount the switch wear u want and hook the (-) to the (-) on the lighter ut stuff back good to go

Preludeshalyn
02-25-2008, 07:31 PM
you could also wire them into your parking lights so that the neons come on with your parking lights. what do they need a seporate switch for, it's not like you can see them during the day. thats what i did with my old accord anyway.

i used a switch like this in my subaru for a clean look, you just drill a 3/8in hole and it flush mounts. you can get them at radioshack
http://www.artoo-detoo.net/gallery/d/2594-2/IMG_5849.JPG
plus that little dot lights up when it's on.

mcimo

So your saying I should use the power from the cigarette lighter to power the switch, and splice a cable back to the cigarette lighter so it will still get power, right?

Because you can see them when you drive at night , but you want to
make sure you can turn them off if you get pulled over by the popo  .
Also I already mounted it, I'm gonna wire it up tomorrow.
I'm assuming that your's had its own ground prong like mine,
since yours has a built in led too, correct? Does that ground go somewhere
different than the ones for the neons? Or can all the grounds be spliced together?

The way my switch's prongs are setup is like so:
=== power
=== acc
=== ground

yogi_pahl

[QUOTE=mcimo88;112144]So your saying I should use the power from the cigarette lighter to power the switch, and splice a cable back to the cigarette lighter so it will still get power, right?

i used the in line splicers u dont have to cut the wires for the lighter u slide it over the wire you want to splice into and then the wire u want to splice with then use pliers to crimp them together u get then anywear this is what they look like
http://www.radlites.com/images/splice_connector.jpg

as far as ur switch

=== power <---- hook to the 12v of the lighter
=== acc <---- this one**
=== ground <--- to the ground of the lighter

the acc prong i cant quit remember but i think if when u shut ur car of ur lighter goes off u can just hook it to the 12v power on the lighter if not u will have to hook it to the acc of the radio

mcimo

So thats it? Just tap the power from the cig lighter to the switch, and attatch all lights to switch. Right?
Also can the grounds be spliced togeter, or do they all have to have their own place to be grounded to?

Mine actually are fairly subtle too, I can see just fine at night with them on, plus they're not all the obvious from outside the car. You'd really have to be looking to see them.

The only thing I need to know is if the grounds need to all be seperate, or if they can all be spliced together... do you guys know?

Oh by the way I already mounted it, I just have to wire it up. I got excited last night and mounted it.... haha.

I was just thinking, couldn't I tap in to the power wire for my amp? because it comes straight from the battery, and it has an inline fuse...

if you want to blow the crap out of stuff the battery is 12v but a crap load of amps meaning it will fry them u could use the lighter the power for the radio the red one not the yellow(that one keeps power all the time ) the blue one on the radio for the amp

mcimo
02-26-2008, 12:50 PM
What I mean, is theres a seperat cable from my battery that right now only powers the amp. So if i tap into that, you think it'll blow my neons? Or am I just duM?

If i use the power from the cig adapter, can it power the switch and the cig adapter both?

94ludeguy
02-26-2008, 12:58 PM
dude u cant use the power wire going to ur amp.

yes u can still power both. so how many neons are u hooking up to this lighter b.c u could end up popping a fuse if u hook up too many

mcimo
02-26-2008, 01:02 PM
1 biggish neon, 1 small neon. im not gonna hook up the led pod, i dont like it anymore ;)

94ludeguy
02-26-2008, 01:07 PM
oh ok u should be fine then. u can use the lighter power for both and still use your lighter outlet

mcimo
02-26-2008, 01:28 PM
Cool. Thanks bro. Now the problem is its freaking raining outside. Grr. Rain sucks, especially when you cant park in a garage.

yogi_pahl
02-26-2008, 01:37 PM
ya it be ok to run all of them and still use the lighter i had 4 12" neons running off it at one time no problem

02-26-2008, 01:38 PM
lol sry to hear that. kick whoever is in the garage out

mcimo

Well actually noone can use the garage. Its taken up by thousands of years worth of crap building up. haha.
So im tapping the wire that goes to the middle of the CL right?

yogi_pahl
02-26-2008, 03:14 PM
ya the one in the center is the (+)

mcimo
02-26-2008, 03:54 PM
K. Oh yeah any really good places for ground, or just wherever theres metal part of the body?

yogi_pahl
02-26-2008, 04:20 PM
i used the other wire on the lighter but ya a good metal spot would work

mcimo

Oh the other wire is ground right?

yogi_pahl
02-26-2008, 07:39 PM
yes the center one is (+) and outside one is (-)

mcimo
02-26-2008, 07:51 PM
thanks. hooked up the power to the switch, and the ground from the switch, and when I turn on the switch the light on the switch comes on. So the good news is the switch works. But, the bad news is the light on the switch is REALLY bright, and very distracting. So, I'm gonna get a different switch tomorrow like the one you showed me (maybe tonight if I leave in time).

I would like to get one like this
http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/productimages3/sk1744-red.jpg
Im sure they have it at radioshack

94ludeguy
02-26-2008, 08:12 PM
u could wire a resistor in the one for the button light i think that would lower the intensity

mcimo
02-26-2008, 09:39 PM
Would there be a way to lower the intensity for the one I have now? Ideally i'd like to keep the one I have, its just the light is soo freaking bright. The only 3 prongs on back are power, accesory, and ground.

thomas97
02-26-2008, 09:59 PM
mic,
you guys always reply to fast for me to get to you,

rather than running 600 feet of ground wire when ever you need a group just fin a bolt attached to chassis its much easier and quicker, there are two large bolts behind the stereo, its what keeps that part of the dash to the car, those work as EXCELENT ground plus its a nice strong bolt!

combind your positive together at the switch then run one wire out the otherside to power, i have two 10 inch blue neons [underdash] taking power from my stereo because its fused everything checks out and i short circuited and everything was fine due to the fuse, replaced the fuse, fixed the short and its all good.

As a matter of fact it just so happens that one of those bolts was exactly what I connected my ground to lol. But the problem still remains that the led on the switch is way too bright. Any ideas on how to fix it? Or will I need to buy a new switch?

Hehe sorry my brain was operating at about 3.16% of it capacity yeterday haha. But wouldnt that also dim any neons that were attached to it? All I want to dim is the light built into the switch itself, not anything else thats attached to it...

You know what? I could just put a thin layer of black paint over it...

mcimo
02-27-2008, 08:30 AM

new switch,
go to homedepe, me nards, lowes, ace, whatever ya got and pick up a non illuminated switch ftw!
i think the cost of a toggle was like 3 bucks, and the switch button was 3.50.
