Box size depends on a number of things, not necessarily the car.

-Speaker
-Power
-Type of music played
-Ported or sealed

More info please!

there are so many factors you wouldnt believe. sometimes you will just have to try diff setups, i did auto sound for years, so yes, there are endless variables.

i've found that sealed boxes are better for music with a lot of Bass guitar (pink floyd, alternative, ska) ported boxes give you a bit more of that punch for things like rap, hip hop. basically if the groups you listen to use instruments to make sound than get a sealed box, if they use a beat box or other form of computer/compilation device, go ported.

alot depends on your speakers too, some just work better w/ one type of box over the other. i listen to mostly alternative, and i've had the best luck with 2 10's in a sealed box. (no devider betwee the speakers, that makes a difference to.)

Every speaker is different, so every speaker needs its own type of enclosure. So there for it really does not mean bigger is better, or sealed or ported. There are so many other things to consider.

Best thing to do is check the specs on the speakers you have/want. Have someone build you a box to those specs (Air space, inner volume of enclosure, bandpass, sealed, ported yadda yadda yadda)

I will disagree with the sound of real insturments sounding different that electronic one. I have a wide variety of musical interest, and everything sounds good in my car. I have all Alpine Speakers 3 alpine amps (2 mono and one 4 channel) and Head unit, my subs are sealed and I have no problem listening to anything, no gripes here. Then again, I have been doing car audio for almost 20 years, so I know a trick or two.

So all in all, it boils down to the proper enclosure for the subs you have. One more thing. If you buy high quality gear, don't be a cheap bastard and skimp out on the wires (speaker, power, ground and RCA) that can kill a nice system as well.

Later !!!
