I recently wired in used, but new speakers into my 4th gen. The reason i saw used is because mine were stock, and parts from a wrecked 93 were available to me, so i took the door speakers and tweeters(MB Quarts), and the rear deck speakers(PlanetAudio).

But some of the wiring I took from the other lude wasn't too fantastic looking. Just mainly the ones for the crossovers. And the screws for the wire connections to the crossovers were kind of rusted. I also didn't bother to wire the tweeters to the crossovers.

So my question is, how much does the wire itself contribute to the sound? And will the slight rust affect it? And how much am I losing by not having the tweeters wired to the crossovers?

well speaker wire is like no money, it would be best just to get some new wire and solder new wire on and then shrink wrap around it. you could even steal some from old stereo speakers you arent using. im kind of confused though. why are you putting in rusted speaker wire from the junkyard lude. you can just wire it with the speaker wire already in your car

as for the crossovers, it really shouldnt be that much of a pain to hook the tweeters up. i could tell a big big difference once i got crossovers. its def worth the effort. make sure they work good though. if its rusted i would test it to make sure it isnt gonna short out somethin.

but if your stuff has rust on it does that mean it was sittin out in the weather?

I've never understood exactly what a crossover is. Can someone help a brotha out?

I think moisture had gotten in to the car but the wires i took were just some extra ones i needed to finish hooking up the crossover. i am using shrink wrap though. I think I'll replace some of the wiring this spring. And I'm putting new Infinity's in my rear deck.

And I'm pretty sure a crossover is simply just a miniature amplifier, like one for a subwoofer, but wayyyyy smaller, for component speakers.

a crossover separates the frequencies to the appropriate speakers. the highs to the tweeters, mids and lows to the speakers. improves sound quality a lot. it doesnt provide any addition power though. thats what an amp is for. a sub usually just goes in its own rca hook ups in your head unit.

i have infinity kappas all around. just make sure if you want to use your stock speaker bracket to not get 2 or 3-way speakers where the tweeter sits higher then your rubber surround or else it will be too thick to fit in your stock speaker cover

i had to make my own bracket and it was hell to fit in but looks pretty good in the end

I see. I think I will definitely wire my tweeters to the crossovers now. your setup looks really good though. Can you also do crossovers for rear deck speakers? I think they would look pretty cool mounted on the rear deck.

thanks man. mine has crossovers built into the speaker wire line. i know for sure if you buy infinity kappas they come with crossovers already. mine wasnt listed that it had crossovers when i bought it, it was just a nice surprise lol. not sure about the reference series. im not really sure how to wire a crossover it if it didnt have separate wires for the tweeter though.

i would definately suggest the kappas though. mine were only like 80ish i think. the reference are 60ish. i had reference before too and they sound great.

the quality and size of the wire makes a difference in your sound for sure.

I used crutchfield to find speakers that fit and they were infinity reference shallow mounts. just had to make sure i wouldnt get any torsion bar conflicts. I paid 57 on ebay shipped and I will be pretty damn excited if i get some surprise crossovers too. haha

as long as you use your stock mounts you shouldnt worry about anything. and my reference speakers fit inside my stock speaker mounts and bolted/wired up flawlessly. im not sure what model they were but they had the unipivot tweeter and i know they were 180w peak.

looks like im good to go. hate to drag this way off topic, but i can't send PM's yet with my post count. For the future. Im planning on running either two or four Memphis 10"s. Already have them all. But any amp suggestions and tips?

I have references in front and back, and they didn't come with crossovers.

i think 2 10's will be more then enough for your car. i have a mtx thunder6500 750w amp and it works great as long as you are dealing with a 4 ohm load. they are pretty cheap on ebay.

on the other hand if you have the other 2 10's in a box and you arent usin them, i would be happy to buy them from you :)

Haha I was thinking of having two of them face out regular. And two on top facing down inside the box. That'd probably be too much though. The lude is pretty tiny. I'll check out that amp and we will see what happens

i had a 600w planet audio amp and that worked fine. i think i got a little better quality out of the mtx though.
