i have a thread on my turbo project over on Preludepower but not many people reply in it anymore so i dont bother with it. so i had a request to put one in here for motivational purposes so here's my parts list
Garrett super 60- in the mail
Intercooler- not sure what band
BOV-HKS Super Sequential
Wastegate- turbosmart 35mm
oil lines- not sure
Manifold- ebay log, ps & ac compatible, not washerfluid capable
Downpipe- 5 bolt 3"
Injectors-Precision 450cc
Computer- Pr4 with p28 insides, crome pro
Swoosh turbo timer
Foam air filter
Need:
Walboro 255lph fuel pump
new oem cat
new O2 sensor
so far i've got my intercooler and most of the charge piping on. i have my turbo timer hooked up but haven't got it to work yet if anyone would like to help me figure out the wiring. i also have my BOV on and i'm just waiting on my turbo to come in so i can put the wastegate, manifold, DP, and dumptube all on. also i can find a 10mm wrentch to take off my fuel rail to get to the injectors. i got most of what i need to cut off my bumper to get my intercooler to fit. feel free to critisize or complement, i'm open to everything

looks good man! when you turbo a car is an 02 gauge mandatory?
hardwhite
02-02-2008, 06:39 PM
not really. most people just get boost guage, oil pressure, and a/f ratio guage. i just need a O2 sensor cuz mines stuck on my cat and my cat it stuck to the flange from my stock header. so i gotta buy a new cat and O2 sensr

ok i just had somethin happen thats really starting to worry me. i have my car up on jackstands right now. i went to take my front tire off so i put it in first gear and went to take it off. however the wheel started spinning when i tried. i tried putting it in 2nd and reverse too and the wheel keeps spinning. i can hear it switching gears when i shift but the wheel still spins freely
94ludeguy
02-02-2008, 07:14 PM
it will do that if both tires are off the ground. lol if u dont want to take it off the jack stand have someone hold the brake.(not the E brake)
hardwhite
02-02-2008, 08:28 PM
didnt know that, this is the first time i had both wheels off. haha. whew thank u for clearing that up i was under the car lookin at the axles and transmission and flywheel and in the car lookin at the shiftin **** under the consol. ha. i was freakin out
94ludeguy
02-02-2008, 08:38 PM
haha its cool if u had an LSD tranny both wheels would spin the same direction. if not the will spin opposite
hardwhite
02-02-2008, 10:51 PM
what u mean they'll spin opposite?
94ludeguy
02-02-2008, 10:58 PM
the wheels will spin in opposite directions if u dont have LSD. spin one side and take a look at the other when u do. nothing is wrong tho either way lol so dont freak. good luck with the build tho
hardwhite
02-02-2008, 11:36 PM
i'm not freakin out no more, i was just wonderin why they would turn in opposite directions. i like to learn new things

does anybody have any clue on how to install this damn turbo timer? i'm pretty sure my wiring is correct but when i turn my key off the engine shuts off. the timer counts down and all but it doesn't keep the engine runin

just got my super 60 trim turbo in the mail. almost done collecting all my parts. but one of the studs are stck in the exhaust housing and broken. so now i gotta find a tap and die set to get it out. but i think i might still put it on without the one bolt cuz i cant wait no longer!!! will get some pics and post later
94ludeguy
02-04-2008, 04:32 PM
i wouldn't leave one bolt out it might cause a leak
hardwhite
02-04-2008, 05:34 PM
i'm just gonna do it so i cn make sure it all fits. and i'm glad i did cuz now i found out that my exhaust housing wont turn. it has the oil inlet on the bottom and the return on the top. i need it to be the other way around. but the exhaust housing just wont turn, i've loosened all the bolts

wooottt! ok.
i can't help you with the turbo timer cuz i never had one, and i hate electronics.
unless your looking for 400+hp, an ebay intercooler will suffice.
if your going crome pro, i'm almost positive you can turn the O2 sensor off, so you dont even need to buy another one. then you can just get a wideband and call it a day.
you should be able to clock almost any turbo. if its a used turbo, its prolly a lil rusted so its hard to twist. hit it gently with a hammer/mallet to loosen it up

i already have the intercooler. and i dont wanna have to buy a wideband, wouldnt a regular one be cheaper?
twokexlv6coupe
02-05-2008, 05:27 PM
a regular what, narrowband a/f gauge?
yea they're cheaper, but ALOT more inaccurate, they only tell you "rich, lean, or optimal". a wideband gives you a digital display of what your actual a/f ratio is, which is much more precise.
some people say you only need a wideband for tuning, but i like knowing EXACTLY whats going on with my engine.
wideband FTW.

i might upgrade to one in the future but right now money is a big factor. i gotta wait for my job to pick up again. i have made only 80 bucks between novmber and now. lol. but i tried tapping the exhaust housing with the mallet nd it wont budge worth ****. this is really gonna piss me off. and then my downpipe wont fit right so i gotta either cut more of my support brace (already broke all my metal cutting blades) and bend it a little (dont have a torch). this is starting to be alot more work than at first

i hope you weren't expecting this to be a direct bolt-on deal  preludes weren't meant to be turbonized.
try spraying the back plate of the turbo (where the compressor/turbine housing bolts to the middle section) with some degreaser/wd-40 to loosen it up. it has to turn eventually.
can you post a pic of the turbo?

i've ran into some problems so far but got through them so i figured i been through the worse. boy was i wrong. i'll go try lubing it up, i just remembered this great rust stuff i bought. i'll get some pics while i'm at it

i got my kit in mid-october. i been just workin on it little bits at a time when the weather wasn't too bad. most of the time has been spent waiting on parts. now that its gettin warmer i've gotten more into it. and i'm 17

grr, im 17 too. i wish my mom was stupid. i have the money for a turbo no problem now.

that might actually be worth it lol. if you had a built h23 it wouldnt be a bad idea at all.
you have like the same car i do lol except i have h22ness

A good O2 probe are your best bet for a/f gauge. A/F are ok but shouldn't really rely on them. If you are going to get O2 probe, better get a good aftermarket one so the reading will be accurate. Good readings will prevent from over boosting and melting your pistons. If you are running on stock H23, be careful from overboosting or else you're going to damage your engine. I've had turbo cars in the past and boosting can be addictive. If you want to add more boost then you will have to build your bottom end up to hold the boost. Goodluck and enjoy the ride..

well i got a good deal on the kit. 1500. plus175 for another turbo, 230 for manifold, 50 for tools and **** that i aint have. still got cat, 65, fuel pump, 100, 02sensor, 40, and temporary tune, 100. so in the end i'll prolly be about 2500 in the holes cuz im sure more **** will pop up that i have to get. and then when i save up money i gotta get it tuned so not sure how much that will cost.
and i'm just runnin low boost, not sure how much , but something lower than 8. i'll buid and crank the boost up once i graduate and get myself goin steady and all

My bad i think i was sleeping when i wrote this.. I meant instead of getting A/F guage you should invest in a EGT (exhaust gas temperature) guage.
hardwhite
02-13-2008, 03:42 PM
where does a EGT take its reading from?
94ludeguy
02-13-2008, 11:50 PM
where does a EGT take its reading from?
most of the time in the header. well i guess it would be the down pipe then
niteowl93
02-14-2008, 05:10 AM
where does a EGT take its reading from?
The EGT Prob goes in the header.. What happen is that you want to read the hottest part of the engine. The next thing that's the closest is the exhaust gas exiting the engine.. The header would be your best bet. With the probe in the downpipe, the exhaust gas temp would already drop thus giving a false reading of the engine temp. Reading the engine temp is crucial to not damaging your engine in the long run if you decide to run higher boost. All the other guages are good but EGT guage is your life line on a turbo car.
hardwhite
02-14-2008, 04:27 PM
well my downpipe came from a 96 so its OBD2 so i got 2 places for O2 sensors but only need one. could i use this to run a EGT guage?
94ludeguy
02-14-2008, 04:42 PM
i guess u could do that i dont see why not. just use the very 1st one. and and make sure the threads fit good

02-14-2008, 05:10 PM
thats actually a really good thing. you can run an EGT and a wideband!!
idk about EGT sensors, but i know wideband o2 sensors shouldn't be placed TOO close to the turbo, so i'd put the EGT 1st, and wideband 2nd.
94ludeguy
02-14-2008, 06:02 PM
so i was right this time lol. at least i was seconded by a more knowledgeable person who knows turbos

This would work ok i guess if you don't want to drill for a new location.. EGT probe before the wideband o2. EGT probe would have no problem being on the header close to the turbo. I've never heard of any guys with EGT probe problems or failure due to the location on the header.. included is a SAMPLE PIC of a TURBO ECLIPSE with the EGT probe on the header. I ran the same set up when i had my turbo talon.. If you already got two locations on the downpipe then i guess you can put the first location for the egt probe and the second for the a/f o2 sensor. It's up to you. My preference would be the header for the EGT probe and the O2 sensor for the A/F in the downpipe.

well my job finally picked up. i've worked 2 days so far which should yeild 80 bucks :/ but i got more hours next week so the money shouldn't be much a problem. its gotta be finished by this summer tho cuz then it's off to college and then i'll have almost no money to put into this. i'll just have a side pot of money saved in case theres a **** up. but as for an update, i'm waitin on my new injectors to come in prolly sometime this week. then i gotta bend my downpipe out a little. any ideas on how to safely do that? stepdad said i gotta heat it with a torch first but i have no torch. would i be ok bending it just a few inches down? after that i got a cat and fuel pump left to buy and thats all the main **** i need. i'm also gettin a pretty damn near dead on basemap tune of someone else with the same set-up as me until i get my license back so i can take it to be tuned all the way. that and tapping my oil pan and hooking up the boost guage and just bolting all this **** on is pretty much everything i have left yo do
94ludeguy
03-27-2008, 09:46 PM
any update man. is it done whats the deal

03-27-2008, 11:16 PM
until i get my license back
what happened to your license?
hardwhite
04-05-2008, 09:17 PM
no updates really, got the stuff to do the oil pan tap but first i gotta get my downpipe bent a little and extract a broken bolt from the exhaust housing on the turbo and i still gotta get some sensors, a cat, and a fuel pump. and now i gotta pay for a lawyer and fines and court fees for some bull**** i aint even do so i'm gonna have to put most of this aside for a little while. and the thing about my license, back in May i got it suspended for 13 months for a few speeding tickets so i dont get it back til like june
