View Full Version : My G22T build
twokexlv6coupe

My goal: 300hp and lb-ft.
The motor:
F22 block: $60 local. its got a bad main seal, so i'll replace all the seals. plus get it honed.
polished and balanced crank: $100
forged F22/H23 rods and pistons. prolly eagle/pauter and wiseco, or another big name. $300-700
ARP head and main studs: $100 (i know what head studs are, but where do the main studs go? ) ARP rod bolts too.
either ACL or honda main and rod bearings: $80
F23 cometic head gasket: ....
680cc precision injections: $150
and my stock H23 head.
Basically I'll be following this guy:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=81502
Questions:
-I'm pretty damn mechanically inclined, so can I assemble the bottom end myself? Or should I leave that to the machine shop?
-Would my current phearable/chris harris-tuned ECU run this? Obviously I would get it tuned again by him, but just so I could drive it there?

Where are you getting the crank done for $100?
twokexlv6coupe
01-28-2008, 12:08 PM
that was a bit of an underestimate, cuz laskey racing does it for $150, so i'm assuming thats the average that i'll find. MOST of those prices are just ball-park figures, pending on whether I buy them from an online store, or see someone parting their build out.
also: i hafta get the block honed first, then THEY will tell me what size pistons to run, correct?

I believe that's the case. But where's the G22 come from?

duhhh, just as i suspected. the main studs hold the bridge to the block :smashfreakB:
looks like cometic doesn't make a headgasket for the F23 :frown:
oh well, OEM will suffice

oh yea, i forgot to add a 2.5bar motorola MAP sensor, cuz i'll DEF be boosting more than 1 bar daily  :burnout:

yea dude, you gotta update me with your setup!!^^^^
i needa lil motivation to make me start spending money (that i dont have:tongue: ) on my motor
so umm... jeff evans is pretty much GOD for having this step by step engine build!!

i think i'm gonna open a thread up on here about it cuz people on PP dont seem to care except for like 3. but where does he tune at? i coulda sworn i heard that name around my way
hardwhite
02-02-2008, 04:31 PM
nevermind, just went and looked and his name is james evans, maybe tuning runs in the family
twokexlv6coupe
02-04-2008, 06:12 PM
jeff evans is in eastern PA, around philly, but he doesn't do crome pro. if you feel like switching to neptune or hondata, he is one of the BEST tuners in the country, well worth the drive from mary land.
i just ordered my MAP sensor yesterday, once again restarting the downward spiral of my back account into the money-pit of a car

i think when i save up the money and get my license back and all i'll prolly drive up to motoxxx from PP and pay him to tune it, he's helped me with alot of this so far and i seen what he did for someone else's setup which is ery similar to mine
twokexlv6coupe
02-07-2008, 03:11 PM
luckily you're close to the tri-state where there's a plethora (good word bro) of AMAZING tuners all around
hardwhite
02-07-2008, 03:50 PM
the closest tuner to me is like an hour away but they dont use crome. i live in the middle of nowhere so its a couple hours drive to anywhere

here's some numbers i found on some ALL STOCK F22T's:
-Stock head and block, t3/t4 turbonetics kit @ 5psi:
185whp and 205wtq
-@ 7 psi 209 whp & 215wtq
@11psi 244bhp & 245 lbft Torque.
-305hp and 298tq @ 8psi stock engine
-Setup made 270whp on 9psi on an evo 16g
-10psi on a T25 made 170whp and 215tq
-I'm on stock internals (except cam/valvesprings/headstuds)
mines making an estimated 375-400 whp on 12 psi
-269 whp/ 281wtq @ 14psi stock engine with boost leak lol
-Bone stock F22b1 with garrett 60-1 @14-15psi:
335whp and 280wtq
god i cant waittttttttttttttttttttt    :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

so wait are you just doing a f22t or are you doin that f22 block with h23 head.
twokexlv6coupe
03-21-2008, 03:20 PM
i was originally planning on the F22/H23 hybrid cuz i was under the impression that the H heads flow significantly more than the F's, but after seeing these numbers on STOCK engines, and after other people confirming the difference in headflow isn't too much, i'm not gonna go through all that work if i dont have to.
94ludeguy
03-21-2008, 03:50 PM
u could just polish up the head a bit to get a smoother flow.
Si Speed
03-21-2008, 04:23 PM
Stick with the F22 head Neck. As you're finding out, SOHC Hondas take to boost extremely well. Just fancy up the head you got. No, an SOHC isn't as pretty under the hood, then again, I expect you to let the internals do the talking. Good luck dude.

she sounds a bajillion times healthier than my other H23. plus new t-belt, b-belt, water pump, and seals, and compression all between 177-180..... i got a good feeling about this one
just waiting on my tie rods to arrive so i can drive her again :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

so once the $$$ that mommy deposited gets processed, i should have enough to get her street tuned by Chris Harris of Xenocron again, but he recently changed his policy for boosted street tunes to no more full throttle tunes, and he sets boost cut @ 0psi, so idk how safe i would feel about that, especially if i wanna push around 12psi/300hp.
so i think i might save another 200 to have him dyno tune it, and see how much power this sucker puts down :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
Brash22
04-01-2008, 04:50 PM
Dyno tuning is the safest way to do it anyway IMO. Keep us posted mate.

oh yea, i forgot to add a 2.5bar motorola MAP sensor, cuz i'll DEF be boosting more than 1 bar daily  :burnout:
I've heard people say this... what does "1 bar" refer to?
twokexlv6coupe
05-04-2008, 11:37 PM
1 Bar = 1 atmosphere of pressure, which = 14.7psi.
but stock MAP sensors can only read up to around 10-12psi, not up to 14.7
grrr i need to get back to studying for my fluid mechanics final
PreludeS
05-07-2008, 10:27 PM
so if you were only gonna run like 8 PSI you'd only need 1 bar?... sorry if this counts as thread jacking.
98vtec
05-07-2008, 10:37 PM
you would use the stock map sensor. You need to confirm that the wastegate doesnt allow the engine to ****e above 11 psi to be sure that you could use the stock sensor.

update!! man!
did u decide to hook up the turbo stuff???
twokexlv6coupe
06-18-2008, 06:16 PM
Updates.... the G22 idea went in the trash when I sold both H23 heads to fund a new replacement turbo instead of the eGay t3/t4.
I've put 2,000 miles on this F22 thus far (no turbo yet), and I'm gonna see what a stock F22 can do with some positive manifold pressure, very shortly

sweet, i love turbo.
i finally got my tranny off so it going on the engine stand when i get home and then the dismantling will begin:biggrin:
