View Full Version : Wear your seatbelts not airbags alone
I didn't know where to put this thread, moderator's you can move it as you see fit. I almost lost my brother if he wasn't wearing his seatbelt like he should have, both the State Trooper and the Paramedics said he would have not survived. Please wear your seltbelts
He had just finished changing the oil and taking it out to run the car a bit to run the new oil thru the filter, topped a hill and four deer standing in the middle of the road. You never know when this could happen to you so buckle up.

He walked away from this accident, Doctor released him after about 30 minutes at the ER no injuries besides the seat belt burn marks.
When I was a boy about 5 or 6 years old my mom, brother and I were on the way back home from Tastee Freeze kind of like a Dairy Queen, keep in mind this was the 70's long time ago. We were on the way home less than a block from our house and struck a telephone pole. I learned latter that the ice cream was in a cardboard like thing to hold the ice cream for us, my dad & sister who were waiting at home, well we made the turn onto our street and the ice cream slid across the seat. For that split second it took my mom's attention off the road was enough, none of us wearing seat belts. I was fortunate I only had a deep cut above my right eye later becomming a black eye about 4 stitches. My brother broke his leg at age 4. My mom had around 30 or so stitches on the face from hitting the steering wheel (she wears glasses I think most of it was from the frames). She was also 1 week overdue pregnant with my brother Travis he didn't make it, so please wear your seatbelts.
I guess I should have placed this thread in the off topic category. Sorry can you please move it to one of the categories that will be most seen.
It is a pretty strong message that I believe everyone should read. Thank you

wow glad nothing real bad happened other than the car being wrecked...did your bro swerve for those deer or is that what 600 pounds of deer will do to a car?

Well he crested a hill, when he did all he saw was deer, he counted 4 but he said could have been more, they were coming out of the woods down across the road into a field he said. Must have been feeding time for them. Well once cresting the hill he hit brakes the car has anti lock brakes but, the weight of the car was not on the wheels yet from lofting the hill, once the weight of the car was back on the wheels they locked up throwing him into a skid and instead of hitting the deer he hit a tree at around 50 or so mph after hitting the tree it spun the car around and he felt it in the steering wheel like the car was going to flip so last moment he turn away from the skid and kept the car from rolling over and came to a stop in the ditch. He sits there and says I should have hit the deer, I told him my saying "Hindsight is 20/20" even while I was serving in Iraq with the US Army. I stuck to that it help me thru it. Yeah he lost his car but he walked away from the accident. If he had hit the deer who knows it could have come thru the windshield snapping his neck or something. He can always replace the car not his life or being healthy.

hm, damn ..happy hes ok, wish him the best...i was just wondering if thats what 600lb of deer would do
Well he is doing fine now, all the soreness is gone and he is about to settle with his insurance company. Looks like he is going to buy another one this one is about 2 years newer. A 2004 Acura RSX Type S he likes the headlights better on the 02's but I think he will be satisfied its a low mileage car only at 13K miles on it. He said he is going to stick to driving on 4 lane highways in Bedford County and inch along on the back roads, deer is a real problem in Bedford, VA. They had 8 fatilities in deer related accidents this year so far, crashes are over 100. So stay out of Bedford County, heck my mom and dad live in the city there and I was driving to their house only a block away from their house I saw 4 doe 2 fawns, and I could barely make the buck out in the wood line. That place is covered with deer. Open up deer season for another week. They even started this year one week early so they did have an extra week of season and its still bad. Next year they are giving out more doe stamps.

I am glad to hear he is ok:smile: ...I can't stress it enough, WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT!!! my step-mom was killed earlier this year because she didn't wear her seat belt and wrapped her car around a tree. she was ejected from the windshield and killed instantly. She left behind my two half sisters (same dad, dif mom) Our dad died when we were little and now they live with their grandparents. They said if she had been wearing her seat belt she would have lived. I always make everyone who gets in to my car wear their seat belt or I wont leave haha. Even if my sisters friend think I am stupid!

glad he's okay. i've been in 2 head-on crashes and i know that if i wasn't wearing my seatbelt i wouldn't be here today! i saw on the news the other night that these girls were mud boggin on some dirt road with kids in the car and no one was wearing their seatbelts. they ended up crashing into a tree and everyone except the kids died! ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS its just common sense.

Sorry to hear of your loss, best wishes to you and your family.
Yeah seatbelts do save lives, you know I heard about that girl in that movie Fast and the Furious Toyko Drift, you know the main character chic. Well she was in an accident with her boyfriend I don't know the details but she was thrown from the car and is paralized now. Very sad. I also have a High School buddy that hit a tree and his seat broke he wore his belt but the Police and paramedics said if his seat didn't break he wouldn't be alive, but he is also paralized from waist down. However he does walk with special crutches and if he stays up on his feet and does his therapy enough he said he felt something tinggling in his lower section, so Doctor's are excited but with out the stem cell research I'm afraid he may not walk again, but it is promissing.
Again sorry to hear about your step mom.
