To fix: Get a soldering iron with a pointy tip. Take your solder and melt a small ball of it onto the tip of the iron. Then add the solder to the connections. When you're done, take a screw driver or knife and scrap in between the solder to make sure there are no unwanted connections. If you are using solder with silver in it, wear a respirator, the shyt is poisonous.

Heres how I do it.

Smaller pics and it might be more effective, lol. I had a hard time figuring out what I was looking at since it was so big but otherwise, very good work.

So you did this write-up in response to the climate control not always lighting up? That's a problem with 4th gens. Mine does it too. I have to beat the dash to get it to light up.

the brown plug controls the bottom lights, the green plug controls the top lights and buttons...if the green plug is loose than the climate control button functions like defrost etc. wont work so thats why i did this write up. a few people wanted me to do it too..and thanks Tim

I never had to remove the buttons, just the sliders. The only time I had to remove the button faces was to change the color piece inside from blue to red. Might have changed from 92 to 93 but I dunno.

hm, maybe you dont have to remove the buttons, im looking at the unit right now and it doesnt look like you have to remove them, i dont know why i did......well thats how you remove the buttons if you need to do it people haha..thanks for the input!

Yea I def broke a clip on all the buttons except one though. Luckily there are two on each button so they hold fine. So unless you have to I wouldnt.

dude, that's so funny. I used to have to do the samething, then later one night I hit it real hard cause I was frustrated, and like ten minutes later my fuel/temp gauge went out. I don't think it had anything to do with that, but it was ironic, and irony sucks. Anyways, mine works perfectly after I took it out and re-soldered it. Thanks for the great write up, you helped me alot. And one tip, don't do this outside in below freezing temperatures. I nearly froze to death, but i'm still kickin.

It should fix the a/c; my ac didnt work before i fixed mine either. If the green light doesnt come on when you press the ac button then the ac wont come on. If the green light comes on but the ac still doesnt work then there is probably something else wrong. Let us know how it works!

awesome write up, yea pics could be a little smaller but oh well. and i was LMAO when you said babies and owls and junk   .... all my lights work alright, except for the slider lights, but they even come on most of the time... the slider function works, because it goes from hot to cold and visa versa... BUT the heat will just not get hot, its barely luke warm... my coolant levels are fine, ive been trying to find the culprit forever because its winter in NH and it SUKCS BAD haha.. anyone know anything at all.. pllleassee.. sorry for jacking this write up but im desperate.

Yea I agree about the pic size, I havent been bored enough to resize them yet lol. My slider lights also dont work as of doing this writup haha I must have bumped something. About the heat not getting hot...maybe a hose is clogged and only lets a little bit of coolant through? Also, I think the cable also is connected to a valve in the engine bay on the firewall at the same location where the cable is. (<<I hope you can tell what I mean about that. I'm also not 100% sure of that, I saw a valve type sliding thing and figured thats what it was.) You might have to take your intake off to find it, and dont worry about the thread jacking shiz its only a tutorial...my tutorial, lol. Thats all I really know about how the heat works.

Heres a thought: did you try pressing the button that makes your car recirculate the air instead of bringing it in from the outside?

Hm, maybe you can bend them back with hemostats(sp?) or something. Did they bend as you put the plug back in? The way the plug is designed I dont see how it wouldnt go in straight but anythings possible. Sorry that happened.

well i managed to fix the pins. turns out it was the male part of the plug that was the problem. some of the green plastic was bent over in a couple of the holes. might have happened when i was puttin in the bottom screw and bumped the plug against something. who knows. but i got it in fine and everything seems to work. i didnt turn the car on but all the lights work now and i could hear the different settings change and the a/c fan turn on so i imagine everything works better now.

Looks like good instructions...
Anyone else have the following problem?
When I move the "location of the air"... vent, defrost, heat (floor) nothing really changes, I always have a little air coming out everywhere and the fan speed still works. What would cause this???... I guess I should make a new thread, but it seemed related enough that I didn't want to immediately clutter up the website...
let me know if I should just start a new thread instead.

I still haven't taken the initiative to look at mine.. don't have a/c right now, so we just cruise with the windows down... (my prob is that the selector doesn't work...posted above)

I just redid mine and finally the damn lights stay on. One problem though, the rear defroster button light stays on all the time. I tried two different climate controls but it just stays on. Anyone know where I should look to fix this problem?

so i have a couple things to say. first off the pics arent to big in my opinion the images are just too close up. like the pic of the screw under the climate box. if someone wasnt firmiliar with the set up they will be flippin the pictures all around cuz some of the angles are funky. secondly this is the only place that i have found a step by step how to on this subject. ive been looking for two months. Awsome job dude! and... THANK YOU!
