Hi guys, need some advice or help with this.

My 5th gen has a Nokia handsfree cradle, that has two wires running in behind my stereo. I think one may be for aux input into the radio, and the other for charging the phone. I'd like to switch to a Sony Kit, with the k800i, I have the cradle, power cable (for the lighter), and will get an aux wire.

I'd like to cut off the piece that fits in the lighter bay, and wire-in to the back of the lighter, like what I think has been done already with the nokia kit. I havn't opened up anything, or taken out the radio yet, but will soon and need to know what is the best way to do this? Is it possible? Or do I need a different setup?

Links are provided for what I have...

For the Cradle:

For the Lighter Adapter (that needs to be modified)

For the Aux Cable (may just run something similar into the front of the radio)

So any ideas how I will modify the Lighter Adapter so there is just one or two wires running into the back of my dash?

Thanks in Advance!

yea there are two wires running to the back of the lighter plug, might take some soldering but if youre confident with that then pull that bad boy out, and take apart the adapter from the kit.

just match up the wires, ie the one that goes to the middle of the plug gets wired to the middle of the lighter, and the side to the side, solder it up and put it back.

thats great help, what about the power, I hear some say the lighter wiring only comes live when the key is in the ignition, and some say that it's stays live. There's no way for me to tell as I havn't taken it apart yet. And a lighter or lighter adapter might not work as it probably won't tell me if it's on a continuous live. Dunno if that makes sense, kinda tired... sleeeepp zzzzz

try plugging it in when the car is turned off before you take it apart, if it works then its live all the time. A lot of japanese cars dont stay live, but most american's do, its a difference in the way they wire them, I dont know because I dont use it, I wired 3 plugs into the side of my passenger kick panel and stole the wire from my stereo head, its live all the time.

So on your nokia kit more than likely the two wires are a cable that houses a few wires. A cat5 cable infact that goes to the brain of the handsfree kit the other being the external antenna. There wont be an aux in to the radio and at most there will be a mute output for when the phone call comes in or out. The sound will either come from an external speaker or it may even be t-ed into the front left speaker. Wired handsfree kits are really bulky and a thing of the past. Does your phone have Bluetooth?

It does have bluetooth but want a wired/charging system, Basically I've a radio with aux-in in the front, maybe in the back, I've got the various things, handfree etc. and there'll be holes anyway, so why not? I was thinknig of using my phone as an mp3 as well. Problem is 1) Taking apart the lighercharger for wiring in, and seperating everything that has been wired.

Also! Just found out! I think theres a microphone wired up and lies where the cenral mirror is, I may be able to wire it, and the sony handfree earphones has a mic!

Ideas and suggestions? I'm really grateful for the help!

Will get photos soon
