View Full Version : Springs Vs. Coilovers
I think i may have read something like this on here before but i couldn't find it. Aside from the adjustability that comes with coilovers, is there an advantage performance wise, or will a good set of springs give me the same handling?
generally, yes there can be more performance gains from coilovers. the lower the center of gravity of your car the better it handles. but remember that lowering your car throws off the caster, camber, and toe. which can severely effect how your car handles and can make it worse. also what you gotta watch out for are your shocks. you dont want to go so low that you blow them or that they have no room to move.
i also plan on doing aftermarket shocks and camber kit so would that partially eliminate the disadvantage of springs?
depends on how low you want to go and also, are you lowering your car just for looks alone? or are you actually planning on tuning your ride for maximum handling?
Pretty much everyhting im doing is for performance, I'll start worrying about how it looks once I like the way it drives. Nah mean.

I would go for the coilovers then personally. I'm looking at getting those once I get a few more bolt ons. Still waiting on my header to come in :(
yea ditto on the coilovers. i dont know how knowledgeable you are on suspension. but read this, it helped me a lot when learning about suspension.

specifically the 3rd and 4th link. the 4th one you can skim through, its got a lot of information for beginners but really gets into some good information towards the end. but the 3rd one has some really good information on the effects of lowering your car and how camber is almost NEVER the culprit for excessive tire wear.

if u are gettin springs and still plannin on gettin struts and shocks ....just save for a coil over kit...Ksport makes some kits that are fire...
springs are just for the spirited driver. springs and strut/shock combos are awesome.....but a genuine coilover kit is the best and sometimes go for a little over what a spring strut/shock combo goes for.

I had skunk2 springs (which are currently on sale) and switched to Tein coilovers..................big difference, car feels like im driving on wings, i take curves like nothing, so if u have the extra dough for coilovers i would try and get them
