Ok, so my whole theme is black and red, and the stock green fuel/temp and clock were just getting to me.

What you will need is a screw driver, a sheet of clear plastic in your color choice, mine is red (found it at a hobby supply store), and a little determination.

I forgot to take pictures of taking it apart, but did take pictures putting it back together, so ignore the red color.

First you have to remove the cover from your right hand side of the gauges, to do that

-Pull out the tweeter covers carefully
-Remove the rubber strip on the bottom of the gauge cluster
-Unscrew the top of the shroud, there are several screws going in at an angle
-Finally unscrew the dark tinted cover, there are three screws that hold it in, located here:
There is one in the middle

One that holds this little splitter style thing between the speedo/tach cluster and the fuel/temp

And one on the passenger side next to the tweeter

There is a little green clip from the knob for setting the clock that you have to undo as well

It should now look like this

Remove those four screws that hold in the cluster, and pull out the three clips in it, one for the fuel/temp, one for the lights below it (cel, abs, cruise control etc) and one for the clock.

Now that you have the cluster out, flip it over, and remove all of these screws:

Pull out the fuel/temp gauge:

Remove the blue plastic cover:

Put the blue on your colored sheet of plastic, and outline it with a sharpie, then cut it out, I used a razor blade.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v139/scooterboy17/lude/DSCF1724.jpg

Now glue your colored sheet in place of the blue plastic, I used hot glue to do this, just a little dab of it though, you dont want it to squeeze out.

Repeat that on the clock side, and you should have a cluster that looks like this:

Put the gauges and clock back in, put your screws back in to hold in the white backing.

Hook back up your green clips, then screw back in the cluster, and the cover, then the shroud, put back in the tweeters, and your rubber

Turn it on, and test out the new color

its darker than the green, but not too bad, you can still see it in daylight

yea I'm def gonna try the speedo and tach, they aren't EL though, which confuses me, I guess the 93 vtec's didnt come with em.. so we'll see how that turns out, still gotta try my buttons on the climate control as well, as of now only the led's are red.

sfields

the stock plastic was blue, the LCD's are really green... so thats what makes that teal color.. if you do go blue I'd make sure its like a dark blue to balance out the green

for the speedo and tach, i seen that people just take the whole unit out and replace the bulbs on the backside of it with the color bulbs they want

I know I'm kinda bringing this back from the dead for something random, but yellow is only a primary additive color (i.e. paint, colored pencil, crayons, etc.) but when dealing with subtractive colors such as light, the primary colors are red, blue, and green. Yellow light is actually composed of red and green light. But for the purposes of this tutorial, when dealing with see thru plastics it is additive, so in that sense you would be right ;) But, if for instance you had two lightbulbs shining together next to each other, and one was red, and the other was green, you'd see yellow light.

Those are my blues. All I did was add a purple tint over the stock lens and it made it blue. Looks good with my gauges

^^^^^Looks hot. Did you use like purple window tint? or just purple plastic. Details please!

Lol well I went to party city and got the purple plastic-y roll. It was like 2 dollars. You would see what I mean if you go there. Outcome came out real well though

i dont know how to thankyou for sharing this.. i can finally get blue.

sooo just to make sure, you used a purple party celephane (spelling) wrap and put it over the stock green blue plastic? so the combination of both made blue?

damn that does look sick! good job man!

Yep, get that cellphane clear plastic roll for about 1 or 2 bucks and put it on. I tried blue but it gives a blue/greenish look while the purple gave the best blue look. And also, I would only use one layer. And thanks for the comments!

Sounds like party city is about to get some business. haha

I was playing with the idea of getting reverse glow gauges for my 95 SI, but they are a dark blue compared to the temp and fuel meter...now I can have them match up nicely. Thanks to both the original write up and the purple cellophane solution. (I used to work at a Party City...I know that stuff all toooooo well)

Cheers!
