I'm James, am new here.
Brief history...
I owned an '89 Prelude about 3-4 years ago. Probably the best car I've ever had. I sold since i was getting married... kids... etc...
Well, my mom had bought an '86 Prelude for putting around after she experienced my Prelude.
About June of this my wife bought me a '97 Prelude. However, she bought as a gift for me not knowing what to look out for in a used car. Well, long story short, it had countless problems stemming from pure neglect.
Long story short, we were tight on the finances, so I ended up having to sell the '97 to my mom. She had the funding to make all of the appropriate repairs.
She let me take the '86 Si until we can get back on our feet.
I now use the '86 and it has some quirks that really aggrivate me.
I was hoping to tap into the vast knowledge of fellow Prelude owners in the hopes to get some insight.
Biggest issue i seem to experience would be at cold startup. It takes a while to get turned over when cranking, then when it does start it runs very rough and smells rich. After a couple minutes, the idle will increase to cold idle then drop to normal.
I removed the throttlebody butterfly valve, sensor unit and cleaned really well. However, it didnt seem to help.
That is what I want to focus on for now. any help woul dbe greatly appreciated.
