it shouldnt be possible to buy the wrong one... you will probably need a dash kit, thats the plastic part that surrounds it seeing as how the stock unit is larger than most aftermarkets..
To make it easy, go to best buy, circuit city, whoever and get some wiring harness'
For instance, pioneer head units come with a harness that plugs from the stereo and has open wires at the other end... at circuit city you can buy one that has the pioneer plug at one end, and a plug on the other that will match up with a second harness that you would buy that goes from the stock harness to the first harness, easy plug and play.

Also with 5ht gen preludes there stock system uses mic's in every speaker to get rid of bad sound qualty. Why am I telling you this well if you dont rewire all of the speakers in your car they will blow.

alright,
im assuming im going to need to take off the bezel around it right?
and how do i go about doing that?
Edit:
miz i beleivethat was either later models, or just SH if i remember correctly.
mine doesnt have them, i remeber us talking about this and i searched my car for days,
the speakers have been replaced also, so if i did have then, i think they would be replaced?

if you'll look closely, you'll see that i do not have tone buttons as I've seen on the 2000 prelude head units. i think there was another change also, such as my buttons being different.
Edit:
prelude 1875 has this one for sale, you can notice the huge differences in the years, this is a base stereo im pretty sure

Tim if the top pick is your head unit, then you do have the acoustic feedback as miz was saying.
*Edit* I just read your other post and if your speakers were replaced you should be good

yeah, i replaced the rears, the fronts are coming in a little crackley like they want to blow so i have the fade on 75% rears until i have a chance to go get the front speakers, otherwise. its is an absolute must!
what an acomplishment!
and a job well done.
