Ok this is my first thread posting in this section so i thought id start out with something simple that yall might like.

The mod includes removing your stock "reading lights" and replacing them with red painted bulbs so at night a low red glow fills your cabin, thus dubbed, "cockpit mod".

For this you will need:

- 2 Red Bulbs(i forget what type but they are the most common and EVERY auto store carries this bulb, youll see it and recognize it in the pics below)

- Something to pry with, ie flathead screwdriver

STEP ONE:

Pry off the cover over your vanity light with the 2 reading lights on both sides. Be gentle with this, i used finger nail clippers. Most of you may already know how to get this piece off.

STEP TWO:

Remove stock bulbs and discard or save if you feel the need, they're less than $1 for 2. And replace with the red bulbs.

STEP THREE:

Replace light cover and your set to go.

I know red lights are used alot in the military and army when they're trying to read maps or anything at night because you can see fine with it but at the same time it is the least aggrivating color to your eyes. Because of its location on the color spectrum it doesnt not hamper your vision at night. Plus it looks awesome with red glow filling the cabin of your car.

So try it out if you want and let me know what you think.

sispeed: thats great but you really want to drive around at night like that? I had the hyper white leds in my 4runner and one should be enough for the prelude. Im going to get one for the center door light and then one for the trunk light. Im depressed i dont have the door lights on the doors but i think thats only on the SH's

I don't drive with them on, lol. The angle I took the picture makes it seem much brighter than it is, but it lights the car up decently like I need it to, instead of just making shadows.
I wish I had door lights too. I'm thinking serious about cutting into my doors and putting in some later. Those things are very useful to me.
Good idea to get one for the trunk. I have it and it's great. Also have one over my licence plate so I can't get busted for not having one, lol.

you can't do this is some states. The cops will charge you with trying to look like an emergency vehicle. Reds or blues won't work, i think they allow green and purple though.

Did you buy the bulbs in those colors? Or did you have to get them colored somehow?

And just to be sure, what size are these bulbs?

as i stated originally, you can buy them red at advanced auto or whatever your local car store is. And in response to 92 prelude, its not enough for a cop to pull you over, youd have to have them flashing or distracting other drivers. New cars have leds like these shining onto shifters and other places as well.

hey i checked out the superbrightleds.com

got a quick question:
they sell leds for the gauge clusters and stuff. my question is, do those things fit in the 5th gen gauge clusters without having to do conversion/soldering? since most dash led kits out there require some kind of soldering to covert to led.
Are they quick plug and play like the dome light leds?

thanks

what bulbs does it need, are they all the same for cockpit lighting?

Needs soldering.

168

In the 5th gen, you use this bulb for the 3 interior lights, 4 parking lights, licence plate light, and trunk light.

I thinks the 168's are just OEM white. The red one's I got were a different number, and they fit perfect. Now my car is nice and red at night (on inside): red map lights, mini red neon near shifter, big red neon behind front seats near my amp. Theyre mounted on back of back seat, which I always keep folded down (Who can fit in the back of a lude anyway LOL). But it looks flipping sweet!

Bought some more last night and changed my trunk light to red and also the middle courtosy light. The only one in my car now that isn't red is the light above my liscence plate (don't really want a ticket, especially with how hardcore the cops are in Virginia)

EDIT: Just looked at the box and they're 194R's for the red ones I got.
